I have just bought my 4th 944 turbo (and my 15th porsche!).This one is a 86 in guards red.Great car,no rust,sills solid,superb history.The car is original and has done 132000 miles.
The only problem is it does not run full boost .It will only go up to around .4 bar on the gauge.I can hear the turbo spooling up ok.I am thinking it is the wastgate?
How can i check this?
Thanks,
Andrew

Thanks for the help.
Looks like it is the waste gate.
What are my options as regards replacing the waste gate?
Original or aftermarket?
Many thanks,
Andrew.

Thanks for the reply.
I like the look of the lindsey wastegate from promax.
Has anyone got one of these on their car?Do i need to do any mods to the car to run one of these wastegates on a stock 220 bhp car?
Are they hard to fit?
Sorry for all the questions!
Andrew.

Your problem sounds identical too mine when I got my car. Mine turned out to be the amal valve. There is a simple check to make - in Clarks guide.
As I recall it was a case of clamping a hose and seeing if the car made boost. Be very careful though you could make to much boost.
Anyway if it turns out to be the amal valve they are £70 from Porsche or I am told they are the same as on a Sierra cossy - £40 from Ford.
It can be changed without removing the inlet manifold although its tight.

Good luck

Rich

I meant also to write I recently purchased a Tial wastegate from Speedforce racing in the USA. They will put the value down as $50 if you ask so duty will not cost much and shipping was around £20.
I recall they did it for $350 with the adapter kit - less than the web price.
