Low mileage "mint" Lux at Porsche Centre

I've been given details of the following car, if you're in the market for an exceptional 944 Lux then it might well be worth a visit. The car is in such good condition they're displaying it in the showroom, not bad for a 22-year-old PX!

I've not seen it, just had the details passed to me, so please check carefully.

Feb 1986 944 Lux, white
48K miles, MOTs and history. Fastidious previous owner, who is happy to talk to the buyer about the car. Concourse condition.
Not looking for silly money, to be honest it sounded well worth a look.

Sold as a PX to clear. Call Phil Robinson at Porsche Centre Wilmslow, O1625 522222. Mention me so he knows where you got the details from.

Crumbs! It must be nice if it's in an OPC.

Maybe the current economic climate is causing them to re-evaluate how many of their customers can spank £60k+ on a new 997 ...

It certainly sounds good. Asking around £4k, I forgot to add, which I think is pretty reasonable if the car is as exceptional as it was described to me.

Wow Paul !!!!!!!!!

4K for a 944 described as concours whatever model it is must be worth a new buyer to consider my first Lux was only five pounds less than that at 3995. do we have any locals who can get some pics of it. If it is that good it would make an interesting bit for PCGB magazine

That's really interesting, I didn't think a Porsche centre would sell a 944 no matter what condition it is in let alone have it in the dealership but I have noticed there are a lot of car mags that are featuring the 944 of late so it's become quite popular of sorts.

It used to be that if the car is over 7 years or 70k miles then it's up to the franchise as it will not be covered by the Porsche Approved scheme, so they have to cover any warranty etc. on their own. They must be pretty sure there are no issues with it to offer it for sale.

Lots of dealers like to have something "old" on display - it might attract people in and it subliminally says "if this is what they look like at 22 years old then they are quality". I know someone who had a Golf Rallye with 6,700km or so on it that was on display in my local VW dealer for a while. I don't believe it was for sale though; it wasn't even UK registered last I heard as it was pulled out of a German dealer's collection when he retired and driven home on German export plates.

Fair point, but the Golf Rallye wasn't a run-of-the-mill model; very few of them made, and very very few of them sold in the UK. I'd hazard a guess that the dealer put that on display as an oddity - something between a slice of historic racing pedigree and an automotive freak show. Same purpose - to draw people in - but a different sort of lure. A bit like a Porsche dealer finding an early, heavily racing-modified 924turbo and putting that in the window. Not intending to sell it, just some eye-candy.

Oli.

Well obviously you need some eye candy to liven up something as mundane as a Porsche centre. I mean, what else would people have to look at? 997 Turbo, GT3, GT2? Yawn. It's no wonder people go to Kia dealerships. [;)]

John,

They are quite nice aren't they .... here's one on loan to a Mitsubishi dealership - clearly prettier than the Carisma and Galant, being used to jazz up their dealership:

Nice and red too. I know you like red cars!

If I had to drive that I'd get the train to work [:'(]. Oh, hang on I do anyway [&o]

On the bright side I guess if you forgot to lock it your biggest worry would be someone half-inching your Werther's Originals though.

Mmmmm that's gorgeous isn't it. I wonder how it would look with a splitter and some huuuuuge 15" alloys [8D]

At first glance I though the photo had been resized incorrectly and it was all scrunched up, but the background is okay so it must look like that on purpose

I drove one of those once.

My 15L rucksack (that's the size that French tourists carry 'round London) wouldn't fit in the boot, so it went on the backseat. It understeered more smoothly than any other car I have ever been in - you had no clue what was happening to the front wheels, you turned the steering wheel and hoped for the best. And it had acceleration you could measure with a geological calender. AND it cost the owner more to buy than my S2!

I was going to say I didn't think they had invented trains in NZ yet but I was concerned someone would jump on us for going off thread. I wonder how much a Kia race car would be. [:D]

Any road up - OPC's selling 944's. It just goes to show how desperate the car salesmen at OPC's are getting. They obviously can't sell expensive Porsches so they are resorting to selling cheap ones.

This down turn could ultimately work to the consumers advantage. Car salesmen will have to learn how to sell cars again rather than sit about chatting to their mates and doing their very best to pretend you don't exist.

Didn't get chance to pop in there today, but will take the 944 over there on Thursday for a look - will post the pics.[:)]

Hi All,

We thought we had better report in...............We bought the car a couple of weeks ago..........and yes it is exactly as reported, and we couldn't resist it.

There were problems with the change of number plate and lack of tax disc, which thankfully were resolved this week when we were re-issued with the original number (a good job really as the windows were etched). Wilmslow OPC then delivered the car to us yesterday. How impressive is that?

When Mac had examined the car's history he found out that the belts had been changed 2000 miles ago. Good news he thought. However, that change was done in 2001 !!!!! [:)]
Needless to say they have been changed again, along with two rollers and an engine mounting....money well spent as the car runs like a dream. More praise for Wilmslow.

As the weather was so good today we went for a run out and ended up at Phil Clarke's. He couldn't believe what he was looking at either. He was like a child with a new toy, lifting carpets, discovering labels, finding unused tool kits, looking in awe at the boot carpet, and roaring with laughter at the original radio and fitted Motorola car 'phone. The car is truly a 1986 Timewarp.

Thanks Paul for putting the information on here, and you now know that it has gone to two real enthusiasts.

One last thing. I suggested we should look at the car knowing that our Gold Lux was getting a bit long in the tooth, and considering our venerable ages , a car with 100,000 miles less on the clock would probably last us as our daily driver. Great idea , sound reasoning, until Mac turned to me and said, " I can't carry a bag of cement in this car!" Guess What? C12 BOX stays.

Sue

Great news [:)] I look forward to seeing it at some event in the futue

I'm soooooooooooo jealous [:'(]

You certainly will Paul. In fact having seen the Club dates for next year we are already making plans to take both "best" 944's to Blenheim.

Sue

Oooh what's happening at Blenheim, is that next years major event? I've never been there and it's only an hour away for me. I may even have LIL back to looking her best by that point [:D]
