low speed knock front end

Hi Guys

I am getting nowhere with sorting a very low speed knock out on my 996 C4,
The OPC has looked 2 x and can't find it. It happens at sub 5mph and clunks from front end on slightly rough ground. I may be imagining it but you can feel it through the pedals.

OPC have checked the drop links and say OK.

Any ideas?

No ideas - just sympathy - I have spent a fortune trying to resolve similar issues - i.e. slow bumpy road clunks. Topmounts, drop links, bottom arms, etc all changed with no effect. Have to acertain extent got used to it but still find it more than a little bit annoying.

Suspension clonks are frequently mentioned on this forum. Have a search and see. The usual suspects are the lower wishbones (coffin arms), strut upper mounts and bearings and front forked control arms in that order. If replacing the forked control arms, it isn't much more time (5 minutes) to replace both the anti roll bar bushes (£7 each x 2). A rare cause is the inner ball joint in the steering arm. I've replaced all except the strut mounts and mine still knocks at low speed over rough ground although it is much better than before so my noises were multi-factorial. I'm just living with it at the moment until I get round to replacing the mounts and bearings.

Thanks Guys,

I guess it's time to start changing bushes or the CD's to louder music.

At the moment it only happens occasionally and usually at the end of a run, so I may have to wait for it to be more reproducible before I invest in any expensive bits.

I'll keep you updated if I eventually solve it.

My car is exactly the same so I just turned the radio up at low speeds and haven't got round to changing the mounts.
