Lower arm installation success

Had a great day sorting the S2. Finally bit the bullet and bought some rebuilt control arms from Hartech and had a successful day installing them.

Before, the source of lots of knocking, even after installing M030 caster mounts

After: (must clean up that anti-roll bar)

Both sides done:

So the knocking is all gone, and I still had plenty of time left so I changed to brake fluid for some Castrol Super Response. An excellent day's work and means I will definitely be in the S2 for my session at Bedford on August 9th.

lovely job [;)]. I have to say those axle stands don't look very adequate to me at all. They have a very small base area for the size and weight of car. I would be tempted to stick the wheels under the chassis just in case the car goes sideways [:(]

I think you can get some solid anti-roll bar bushes (sorbathane ??) fairly cheaply it would be worth replacing the rubber ones whilst you are there.

hope you haven't spilt any oil or grease on the drive or you'll be in the dog house for sure[:D]

Always nice to fit shiny new bits on the car [:)]

Yes those axle stands look a bit "light", but a friend's car stood on the same ones for about a year without problem. Also, as long as they are placed on the right locations, as James seems to have done, there should not be any issue with using those.

Thanks guys. Yep, those axle stands are Halfords finest, but as you can see I've upgraded the platforms, as they caused no end of damage once to the underside of my MX-5. Also I don't allow the weight to go through the pin. Instead I pull the pin out and let the weight go through the full diameter of the tube. Finally, you'll spot that I have orientated the stands so that any preferential movement would be backwards, rather than sideways to avoid exactly the scenario you meention Peanut.

As for those bushes, I replaced them just back in March as the old ones were shot, so the rubber is new, just the carriers look a bit scruffy. Got KLA stabiliser links in there too.

well they sure are nice looking stands. I'd buy them just for the colour alone lol

Actually I did notice that you had carefully orientated the stands but I am not sure I would want to work under the car with them ,I'm sed to heavier stands myself. Things these days are getting so flippin skimpy arn't they. I ordered an extra heavy duty toilet seat last year hoping to get something of decent quality. It was so thin and light I broke it first time I sat on it !
