Lower Control Arms 944S2

Hi All
Lower Ball Joint on NS needs replacing, having look at all the issues it seems best to replace all the control arm, and not just the Balljoint ( As per Kits on U Tube)
Been looking round in my area Kent, Sussex, the price for a replacement prices seem very high (Will have to do both sides) any suggestions as to where to best source these parts?
Thank you in anticipation

Thank You
I will have a look on the Web, Seem fairly straight forward, having had a look at the part, no doubt wheel realignment as well.

Hartech and 9apart both use the same supplier and are the best solution. Pricey, but like most things is a one hit job so is worth doing right. when I bought mine I think they were around £210 a side (exchange).

Have heard of lots of failures with the kits. Unless you are really sure you can rebuild them I'd go exchange from Hartech every time. Will need an alignment but unless you've had one recently it'll transform the car.

I've used a "high-performance" ball joint kit (bronze upper bearing instead of plastic) from a US supplier on my '91 S2. Was fairly easy to do with limited tools (socket, large c-clamp, etc) once the arm was removed. If you review the procedure for dropping the engine in the turbo/16 valve supplements to the manual - you will see how to remove the control arms without needing to align the wheels on re-assembly. The trick is to remove the nut from the stud where it goes through the rear mount (counter holding to hold the current adjustment) and slide the arm out of the rear mount rather than removing the rear mount from the body. Clever trick once discovered...why waste a good wheel alignment.

As for the kits - I wouldn't do it again myself - I'd buy rebuilt ones as they come with new bushes as well as the ball joint. I'd look for the retooled arms that have a replacement sealed ball joint assembly to ensure that all tolerances are correct. The trouble with the ball joint/bearing kits is that you are left to decide if the socket in your arm is excessively worn or still serviceable. I concluded my arms were OK as the bronze bearing was a snug fit - is that a quantifiable tolerance?

Thanks for all the sound advice, Rung Hartech today (Very helpful) £175 plus VAT for each side. Result. Bad news will have to wait a couple of weeks as the person who does the work is on annual leave.[:)]

I rebuilt both of mine using the Rennbay kit.During the strip down I discovered that one arm had been rebuilt before using a sleeve and a standard ball joint. I did both with the new joints and brass cups. One lasted a year before it wore out. The other is still going strong, the one that failed was the one that had been previously rebuilt. So mixed results, but in truth in was doing it again i would just buy the hartec ones.
