lower valve covers - oem or alloy

While undertaking some other other work on the car (rear engine mounts), I've noticed my lower valve covers are looking a bit worse for wear.

so question is whether to go with oem plastic replacements or aluminium ? I'm generally keeping the car standard specification, but if the alloy ones are a big improvement, they are something i would consider.

Any experience folks ?

Andrew

What is your actual issue? If they are leaking, it will be the rubber seal. The covers do not 'warp' - that old chestnut is just a license to print money.

A couple of years ago I noticed a small drip on the garage floor when I took my 993 out of winter hibernation. it turned out that the lower OS cover had a crack in it originating from one of the fastening holes.
My guys assumed that it had been over tightened at some point in the past and the extreme cold snap we'd had may have resulted in the crack forming.

Either way I toyed with the idea of doing the replacement plastics, then went and poked about n Jackals website and got carried away and ended up doing all 4 in Alloy.

Cant beat a bit of shiny in the engine... even if only you know its there!

in my case, the lower corner appears to be breaking down, there's actually no oil leak, so hence i hadnt noticed until i removed the under tray to access the engine mounts. so I'm not tackling any leak issue, it's a matter of wear and tear due to age it appears, but not something that i want to leave in its present condition.

That sounds like the problem i have, bottom forward corner appears cracked, although no leak at present. Did you find the alloy covers leak free ?

I have to address mine at some point. I did consider alloy but as mine have managed 21 years, I guess OEM may last another 20 years; then it's not really my problem!

Thanks for the opinions folks, I've ordered a set of oem from porsche kendal, now i just have to get those corroded bolts out without damaging anything .....
