Lowered suspension.

I have been for a while considering changing the springs on my 02C2.

My 01C2 seemed to sit closer to the ground - as it had 17" wheels - whereas my current car with 18s doesn't seem to 'sit' quite right.

As I understand it, I have two options: lower it by 10mm (as per anniversary model) or 30mm (as per C4S).

Two concerns here:
1. lowering by 10mm surely can't be that noticable?
2. lowering by 30mm will considerably worsen the ride quality? (roads up here in Aberdeen are atrocious. Instead of filling in the potholes, they use the tarmac to create more and more speed humps...stop here, I can feel a rant coming on [:D]

Any thoughts/advice/experience with this please anyone?

I can only comment on the 2 996's I have owned. My previous 996 C4 had stock suspension and 18" GT3 Sport Design wheels and whilst it looked nice I found the ride not good with these wheels, however my current 996 C2 has M030 Sports Suspension fitted with standard 17" wheels and the ride is much firmer and handles much better. The previous owner probably sold the 18" turbo technology wheels as this is listed in the options at new in the handbook (perhaps it was too firm !)
The car does look a lot lower than the C4 I had, but ........my only debate at the moment is whether to source a set of original 18" turbo technology wheels...... really not sure

I have a 996 with the 030 option (lowered, etc.) and 18" wheels. Living not too far from Aberdeen, and agreeing wholeheartedly with the comments on the roads, this setup is too harsh. Many have commented here that the 030 option is fine with 17" wheels - I can only say that my own expereince is it certainly isn't with 18" wheels for everyday motoring rather than weekend fun.

My C2 was originally lowered by Gemballa (30cm I believe). On its wider 18" Gemballa Competition alloys, it looks superbly compact and agressive, but it shakes your fillings out on rougher roads. If you want comfort, this is not the route to go.

However if you are prepared to be cautious on poor roads (and live with the jack-hammer working on your spine) the rewards on smoother twisty roads are really worth waiting for

Ride is firm but good here, "dine sithe". No idea what it would be like that far oop north.

Based on the advice above and consideration given to looks v dental bills, I think it's a case of wait until new wheels required whereupon it's 17 inchers ... and maybe 030 as well.

Edit: What I'm also going to do is pay more attention to previous posts - I missed the previous one - and also use the search facility more!

My 996 C2 cab has 19" wheels and has the factory 030 lowered suspension option. It's very low but I am very happy with the ride and the handling. No complaints at all.
