Lowering

Ive just had a set of re-furbished Fuchs fitted to my 71 2.2 T......i think that the front end could do with being dropped a fraction.........is this a straight forward thing to do ?

It's a 5 minute job. Measure the ride height by measuring to the top centre of the wheel arch and decide how much you want to drop the ride height. A generally accepted low "Euro" ride height is 25" rear, 25.5" at the front. The adjusters are accessible at the rear inner end of the A arm, adjust with a 10 mm (IIRC) socket, turn each side the same number of flats.

I have the opposite problem - the front towing hook drags on entry to my driveway on the way in and out each time. I reckon a 5 to 8mm lift will clear it though. I take it the wheels need to be off the ground to make this adjustment? The car is already lowered BTW.

You can make the adjustment with the wheels on the ground or off, but you can only measure the ride height on the ground, so there is no point jacking the car up to do the job. Adjust and measure at the same time.

+1 for what Nick says. Also you may want to have half a tank a fuel and some balast to take account of driver's weight. Make sure the ground is level, and if not take account in your measurements.

I found the most difficult part of the whole process was finding a level surface to take all the measurements!!!
