LSD aftermarket options for 924/944 transaxles?

I've been told all the 924 boxes are fairly strong and should take good power ie 3-400bhp, with the exception of the dogleg box which apparantly has weaknesses. But what scope is there of fitting a diff to my 2.0 S 924 box?
 
The weakness of the 016Z box is the way first gear synchro is designed. The box was good enough for the 924GTR with allegedly 375bhp on tap in racing spec, according to my Porsche gold portfolio book.
 
Spoke to Quaife today and apparantly they do a diff for the "fine spline" 924 box - what does this mean?

They do diffs for most of the 944 boxes.
 
Ok, some opinions please from the porsche contingent!

If you were building a trackcar that has to take around 300-400bhp and similar torque and needs to be a box tat can take an aftermarket LSD - would you go with the 924 dogleg box or a box from the 944 range?

Once you are out of first gear the pattern of the dogbox becomes obvious and those awkward 3rd 2nd gear changes do not mean wiggling across the gate every time. If you are after the ultimate in balance, if you are that good on the limit, (and heaven knows I am not) the there is a slight advantage with the dogbox as all the weight of the gear sets is in front of the rear axle line whear as the 016H box is almost beetle like in its overhang, but of course nothing like as heavy. The gear ratios of the 016z are slightly closer together between second and third. I can't remember how many rpm less it is on a track at 100 mph but I think it's about 4100 in the Turbo and 4375 in the 924 normally aspirated.
 
So you're saying dogleg then? 1st gear, if thats the weakness, isn't something thats likely to get hammered on track tbh. Any idea on cost of repalcing the 1st gear synchro? Is it cheap being a common problem?

Quaife only do a diff for the 43 fine spline box - is there a different part number for this box or an easy way to identify it?

I'm not saying anything, Iamgiving you as much knowledge as I have to let you make your own mind up. TBH I can't think of anywhere where there actually are 43 splines, but my knowledge is finite, and clearly quaiffe know more than I do.
 
The Synchro ring on 1st gear is a floating collar. The speed differential distorts the ring and effectively prevents 1st gear from engaging, until the speeds synchronise, but because of the overload, when you accidentally get 1st instead of 3rd at say 70mph, the ring permanently distorts and effectively, (very effectively) stops 1st from engaging until you take the nose off the gear box and sort it out.
 
Thanks for more top info. I wonder what quaife are on about then regarding the splines because, obviously, I don't want to waste money on the wrong box. May have to dig further on that one.

I think I'm gonna go with the dogleg. I like the idea of all the weight being infront of the diff.

I had noticed that about the 924 turbo diff. The diff used on the 944s was still being used on the back end of audi quattro's until last year.
