Lube Tube...(or can to be more precise)?

Need to lube the front and rear squeaky bushes on my 996 C2, and various options seem to exist better than the standard WD40 - in fact I heard that wasn't ideal as it can dissolve other lubes so its just a short term fix to squeaks and rattles.

I not they have some specialist oils/lubes that come in cans including ptfe (molybdenum) type, silicone lubricant, and white lithium grease (which is what I'm guessing they spray around the door fittings at service time - looks awful!). Anyway, not used any of these before so no clue.

Then there's good old 3in1 which I'm given to understand doesn't contain solvents or additives.

Any guidance on what might be best around suspension joints and bushes appreciated.

Thanks.

I think you should only use WD40 to find out which one is squeaking. If they squeak it means they need replacing but I am sure some one will con
firm/deny this

Not sure if i'm on the right lines here but when I recently took my car for its MOT the mechanic said he had a lot of squeaks coming from his boxster. He said he got rid of them by slightly cutting the rubber boots, enough for a syringe to go through. He then filled the syringe with a little oil and pushed it into the boot. He then followed this with loading the syringe with grease. then repeated the process by pushing the grease into the boot. Upon completion he re-sealed the boot with some super glue. He assures me that this gets rid of all the squakes and creaks after a week or so.
Not tried it yet, any thoughts?

I had a really bad squeak and traced it to the coffin arm ball joint. If you remove the arm the rubber boot is held on with a wire clip, if you remove the clip you can prise the boot up and fill it with grease, sorted mine anyway.

Thanks - I had heard the trick of injecting through a small hole in the rubber boot, but appreciate its just a short term fix for the annoying creaking and squeaking - the coffin arms are worn and still need doing I guess.

However, much as I appreciate the replies, it was a little guidance on the type of lube to use I was after ie with PTFE or Silicone or Lithium grease, so would still take offers on that please.

Also (this probably sounds like a dumb question), there's coffin arms back and front? I thought they were only up front - as I said probably seems dumb if you are in the know, but further guidance appreciated (rem my squeak is coming form rear nearside area - perhaps!)

Regards.

Jules,

In the good (or was it bad?) old days when suspension and other components had to be greased regularly, I'm pretty sure that I packed the grease gun with lithium grease. But things may well have moved on in the past 50-years..!

As far as sqeaks and rattles are concerned, there's no substitute for getting the car up on a hoist and having someone else shake the car around while you attempt to identify the source.

Good luck..!

Jeff
