Luggage cover for split rear seat

I picked up a luggage cover for a split rear seat model for my dads 968, his was missing. Its not a proper Porsche cover, it obviously been made up by someone but has got the original fittings.

Needless to say the material does not fit properly.

Would someone with a proper one mind posting me a close up picture of what cover looks like at one end, where it slots into the fitting in the car. How does the material fit under the plastic ends?

I'd like to try to work out if the one I have got is worth fixing or slinging.

Thanks

Jez

I've got split folding seats and had a new luggage cover made up by a friend using the original fittings with new material (leatherette in my case) - so I'm guessing yours should be the same?.

Mine is an aluminium tube through which a piece of elastic passes. At either end of the tube is a plastic trim piece and at either end of the elastic is a fastening which hooks into the fittings inside the car - same so far? The trim pieces at the end of the tube have a slot, when you press the fitting home onto the end of the tube the slot allows the edge of the material (the bit that actually forms the cover e.g. not the bit which passses around the tube) to sit in it.

When mine was made the original cover was used as a pattern and the vinyl edging re-used on the new piece so it's a pretty good fit - sounds like yours isn't.

Don't know if any of that makes sense but it's pitch black and pouring down outside so I don't think I'll be taking any photo's just yet!

Hope this helps

Iain

lets see if this works...

Bingo! I'll put up a couple more below. Let me know exactly what you need to see if these dont cover it and I can put some more up tomorrow.

That's exactly what I've got in my S2, but I have a vague recollection that I've seen a proper roller-blind stylee affair in another car (944 or 968 ?) which was loads better. Is this correct, is there something better out there, or was it all a dream ?

Thanks for all the pics. They are really helpful and just what I needed. The cover I have looks just the same. [:)]

The pics do raise another question. I notice the cover spans over the boot like the roller blind and attaches to the eyes on the inside edge of the boot.

I think I have seen one attached to the hatch so that when it is opended the cover lifts out of the way - this was on a 944 with split rear seats. Should it do this as well? because obviously this type of cover does not retract itself out of the way like the roller blind.

Thanks again

My hatch (even though the car had a one-piece rear seat) has the attaching points for the suspended cover to open with it.

yes, as Fen says, the hatch also has attaching points, which is how I normally have it, but it was easier to photo this way.

Is it possible to fit a roller-blind style cover to a split rear seat car ? I can't see why the latter should be a good reason for not having the former.

Have I read this right?

Are you saying it is possible to attach the roller blind hooks, on a single piece 944 cover, to the base of the rear window so the cover lifts up when the boot is opened?

I'll have a look tonight to see if I can, but I can't say I have ever noticed any 'eyes' at the base of the hatch.

I guess it would explain why the cover rolls out much further than the length of the boot.

Also, in hot weather, my cover sometimes gets stuck out and won't retract, any quick fixes for this?

I have never done it with a roller blind and I don't think it necessarily would work. The one for the split seat has elastic to let it be dragged around a bit.
