M030 suspension alternatives

If you have a 996 without official M030 sports suspension and you want to retrofit a similar item what would I be looking at?

Can you get the official M030 set and retro fit? Is it just springs or dampers also? Are there any alternative aftermarket alternatives which are similar? And how much do they cost??

Thanks guys, really want sports suspension (as have driven a car with it and now it is a must have!!) but am finding it very hard to source a car with the right spec and M030.

Hi Jimbo,

Have a look at this recent post of mine .....http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=143123&mpage=1&key=&#143123

I have a 996 and fitted aftermarket M030 from Carnewal recently.

Good luck,

Rob

"Jimbo" presumably you didn't go for the C4S then (reference previous post!)?
For me the bottom line on the suspension set ups is as follows....
1/ Standard set up great GT car, more comfortable, still great to drive on the twisty stuff, but all falls apart when you press on, too much body roll, float and pitch, understeers vastly more than M030 car!
2/ M030, 10mm lowered sports car, fast road set up. It can be a little wearing on bumpy B roads, but it truly transforms the 996 from GT to true sports car. This set up is more in keeping with Porsches past!
3/ X-74, 30mm lowered, hardcore road and best track day. too firm for me on road, couldn't live with it, but fanflippentastic on track. You may have noticed that the new 997 press car, that is "stuffing" all the competition, is fitted with 30mm lowered (from standard 997, 20mm lower than S) sports suspension, rather than PASM! Interesting.
Oh one other by product, the cars look more sporting, yes 10mm does make a difference!!!
Having said all this it is bl**dy expensive to retro-fit, aggrovating when you could have specified it new for around £3-400 extra!! Maybe you should save the money & get that C4S after all!!

Yep the very same Grant!

Haven't discounted the C4S but drove a C2 with sports suspension at the weekend and it was a completely different car and I personally preferred it to anything else so far (although if a well priced C4S comes along I may be tempted!)

Thanks for the feedback [:D]

Hi Jimbo,

I have found the difference in hanfling and drive slightly better all round, however, the front end feels slightly lighter and more twitchy but this may be because I had new tyres fitted at the same time and geometry done so it could have been off in the first place.

Most of my driving is around London, either "enthuseastically" or slow and dont find the additional firmness any more uncomfortable than the standard setup. Road noise and bumpiness up slightly but certainly not uncomfortable.

Been to Wales is in a couple of times, once fully loaded 3 up & luggage at moderate speeds and 2 up flying and both occasions it there were no real downsides compared to the standard setup.

10mm makes a difference (ask any woman!) and it does appear slightly lower!

In short, the M030 kit for me would be a no-brainer for future purchases.
