M6/M74

Hi Folks,

I'm supposed to be going to the Lake District tomorrow (Tues 29th) for a dinner party, which means a journey from Fife to Keswick. The roads here are pretty iffy, so if anyone is travelling on the M74 / M6 over the next 24 hours, I'd be really grateful to know what sort of state the roads are in.

Many thanks and happy xmas [;)]

I guess it could change a lot in 36 hours but last night (got back to Glasgow at 21:30) M6/74 were clear and dry (wind was drying it quickly). Only exception was maybe 5 miles south of Abington to the point where it drops to 2 lanes - there I kept out of lane 3 because there were a very few areas of frozen snow sitting in part of the lane.

john.

was on the A80 yesterday to bridge of allan, roads hellish on the outside lane but worth the trip ! then headed to borders for a late christmas party on the M74, snow drifts and snowmen everywhere, a few had their carrot noses missing, so maybe take a couple of carrots,

and a shovel ! leave the porsche at home, got stuck even getting out my drive this morning !

Won't be taking the Porsche, that's for sure. Audi A2 is pretty good in the snow though. We had fun and games just getting my brother's Merc SLK out of our village this morning, could barely get traction even on the flat! []. Just been up to St Andrews and back, main roads OK, everything else lethal. []

I'll review the journey in the morning, so if anyone else has a further update I'd be pleased to hear. [;)]

John, an update.................those snowmen on the M74 had a big fight tonight, snow balls everywhere, so very dangerous as the motorway is now covered in snow. Heard it kicked off cause they were stealing carrots from each other................bad news for the snowmen, no carrot noses and now no balls [;)][;)][;)] Think they should chill out a bit!!

Happy holidays.

Well today the M74 as far as Abingdon seems totally fine but yeah www.nadics.org should work well.

I actually designed the backed for that IT system!!

Thank you all for the info. In the end we got there and back no problem at all, motorways clear, although I very nearly got stuck in my host's driveway this morning. For the record it was a splendid dinner (and industrial grade hangover this morning [:'(])
