M8 Unmarked Police Cars

Just a quick note for Glasgow M8 users, be careful with the fast pedal. I've noticed a marked increase with both marked and unmarked police cars during the last 10 days, even during the rush hours. Be safe.

Quite so! Saw a black BMW 3-series touring (which lit up with blue lights and an internal FOLLOW ME sign, to stop a white van) on the M8 just before the M80 junction last Friday afternoon.

I got a fixed penalty ( £30) last Monday night for having front fog lights on coming back from colin944's in Ayr. They were also after me for no road tax, but I had renewed on-line earlier that night but hadn't shown on their system, showed them confirmation e-mail and they were happy.

I was aware that having the Rear 'High intensity' fog lamps on when there is no Fog was illegal, but I never knew the fronts also rated a fine.

I often use mine, in conjunction with the headlights, when driving around the Lanes where I live, to illuminate the immediate area in front of the car and the verge. Is this also a £30 fine ?

If you have front or rear foglights on and its not foggy and you get caught its a warning or fine.

Hi Guy a recent change to Road Policing in Strathclyde means that there are more motorway patrols on all motorways in Strathclyde also major "A" routes.

As far as fog lamps are concerned Rule 226 of the highway code states

You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves

Rule 236 states

You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

The police will deal with misuse of fog lamps by the Road Vehicle and Lighting Regulations 1986 regs 25 & 27

Chris

Oh how I wish those two rules were enforced

Sidelights at night/in rain and FOG lights permanently on do my head in

I wonder what prompted a change in the policy? Hopfully nothing to do with a forth coming election, it's always good to get conviction rates up when votes are required. [8|]

Was this on the 944? Interesting, as a lot of owners have converted the sidelights to driving lights. This would look as if the car had both the pop-ups and the fog lights on at the same time.

Whether it's worth arguing with the Police at the side of the road I don't know! [8|]

I was in the 944, couldn't argue, pop-ups, side-lights and fogs all on, I realised they were on as they were staring as they passed and I wondered why, switched them off, but they turned and came after me. Anyway lesson learned but a little p'd off as I was clearly visible to other road users, unlike all the one headlighted, one tail-lighted, non-indicating,lights covered in snow, non-visible number-plated cars I have spotted over the last few months. oh, and not to forget those with no lights on.

First time the 944 had been out for 6 months.

Livingston Police have an unmarked black Audi A4 at present.

Also be aware, this weekend there is a police 'safety' (educational) initiative ongoing targeted at speeding and bad driving on country roads. Take care!

It's all about attitude, especially when you get pulled at 'substantially' over the speed limit (I think the term hyper-space was used) and get away with it........ ;)

Oh, and when you get tailed for miles in a test car and they could not catch you in the old 911. I was wondering what that Jag x-type estate was up to way behind me, all over the road I might add.

Honesty and courtesy serves you well.

However, these incidents were a few years ago.......... ;)

I usualy find " why aren't you out catching real criminals !! " has a soothing effect on the white hatters, don't you agree Chris ? [;)]

Mike My reply to that is normally "Well sir when I have dealt with you then I will turn my attention to real criminals" [;)]
