Gentlemen, I've had the MAF light come on, or at least what I assume is the MAF light and have tried cleaning the sensor and swapping it for a borrowed one. The light seems to come on when first starting the car but, if I turn the engine off and then back on, it go's out. Is there anything other than the MAF sensor that can bring this light on?

Actually, a MAF failure will not throw a Check Engine Light on a UK 996, because the DME is programmed to store a fault code, but not switch on the CEL.
As Graeme says, you need a code reader or diagnostic tool to read the fault codes and make a diagnosis. There are all sorts of things that could cause a CEL, and it is guesswork without.

Could well be the brake light switch. It's very common and cheap to fix. Have a quick Google on it

Hi - are you referring to the CEL? (check engine light). This is an amber light with a picture of an engine.
This could be a number of things, but most likely a failing lambda sensor. Wise to get the fault code professionally diagnosed, or as someone else suggested buy a code reader.

If its the Brake Light Sensor I presume the Brake Light would not Work!!
Don't forget if its a VERT the hood will not work if the Brake Light Sensor is dodgy
Wonder if that's why hood sometimes doesn't work
When it happens again I will check the lights!

The brake light switch tends to start going with an intermittent fault, this triggers what looks like random ABS/PSM faults which can also be triggered by a faulty MAF. So it's easy to think the MAF is playing up when really it's just the brake light switch.
If a tester is plugged in then the fault codes for the MAF and the brake light switch are different it's just the same light on the dash that can be triggered by both.
