Mag wheel repair

Anyone know of a firm, in the midlands if possible, who can repair RS mag wheels. I have found 2 small cracks in one of mine. Pristine Alloy Wheels have said they can only refurbish not repair.

Alternativly, probably silly question, anyone got a single rear (9 in) RS mag wheel for sale?

Not sure how well you will get on with finding anyone to repair them. Alloys with high magnesium content i would assume are extremely difficult to weld, if not impossible. I would guess trying alloy welding specialists first to get an idea of exactly what is possible. Best of luck.
I remember back in my VW days that the mag cases on those were not repairable but the later alloy ones were.

Thanks for the link David I will try them as my mum lives nearby. Pity I didn't ask the question last week as I have just come back from York!

Have bought a replica cup 1 for the moment. Other than the colour I can't notice any difference.Worrying the way the wheel just cracked whilst sitting doing nothing, not even on the car.

I know that Diamond Styling also repaired a wheel.

I was told that cracking is caused primarily by water ingress --- but that it's often associated with frost expansion ?

There are 2 cracks on the inner face running from the outermost edge.

The largest 15mm appears to start from some corrosion pitting.

The smaller 10mm starts from a perfect edge

Thanks manipou, I spoke to Jasmine a while ago & they only had fronts. Also £1000 each is a little out of my price range!

No worries, the only others for sale that I know of are at H$S and they are 5000 euro for the set.

I know someone with a set but if he sells them I think it will be the whole set, I can ask if he wants to split them but unless there are takers for the other 3 then it wont be worth it.

Pete,
thanks for the images, wierd stuff magnesium - strong, light but tempermental.
I was wondering if the crack was in the spoke area,
- don't know if you have seen them, but Dymag do a carbon rim with a mag hub of their own design.
If (it may not be in your case) one had a set of cracking Mag's off an RS, they may be able to machine off the Magnesium Rim and replace it with a carbon one.
Mine are OK at present but seeing this does not inspire confidence.
