Magnetic Sump Plug

Just bought a Porsche Magnetic Oil Sump Plug.

Its got no Nut head so how tight should I do it and how

300 33 9051 Part No

Description Billet Aluminium Magnetic Description

Comes without a sump washer (Does it need one!)

The Billet is plastic so does it need a washer

Sounds silly

I expect it is anodised aluminium, which will make it look like plastic.

Yes, you should use an aluminium washer (900.123.106.30 @ £0.97+VAT), and I expect you should torque it up to the factory setting of 50Nm. Presumably it has a hex socket like the factory plug?

I feel a complete idiot !

Has an allen key under the label

GOBACK TO SCHOOL SIMMONS

Thanks

THANKS !!

Incidentally Wynn at Porsche specialist on Towyn suggest I use Steel Seal. He says it will do 1 of 3 things

1. Fix it permanently

2. Fix it till I can afford to strip the engine and have it fixed

3. Will not work and I can get my money back

Did it last week - so far so good

AS mentioned the Engine has always run smoothly, No water In oil, Oil clean and nothing in it (Hense Metallic Sump plug just to be sure)

Here is praying. obviously aware I might get problems

I know you could not recommend something like this just glad he did.

If I had rung him from Coninsby could have done it at my B&B and saved fitting a new oil cooler and staying an extra 2 night (Probably 1500.00 in all
Thanks again

Is this a Porsche item? If so can you get one for a 987?

How much was it if you don't mind me asking?

Cheers.

I buy a lot of my POrsche stuff from Euro Car Parts in Shrewsbury and its genuine

It was 20.00 plus Vat

suspect its the same for yours

I also use Porsche in CHester Speak to Steve Pyhsic he will do you a good price

I always get a price from main dealer for parts as most indies buy from them

If I think I can get a better deal I then look else where

Bought a new Main coolant pipe for my 996 which is about 25" long and has two pipes running off it. £35.00 didn't even bother comparing (An Audi equivelent for my quattro would have been 135!!

Got a price of £1600 pounds for new silencers and ended up buying a none POrsche one

Make sure you order a Sump Plug gasket. Euro Keep the plug but NOT the seal!!! (same with Water Pump Keep the pup but not the gasket!!

Magnetic plugs are made by LN Engineering, and there are several mail order places you can buy them from. I believe the ones ECP stock are the LN ones.

If you want to check for debris more often than every oil change, it is probably easier to drop the oil filter and examine that. When you remove the drain plug, you are committed to draining the whole lot, whereas the filter bowl only holds about half a litre which you can easily collect and reuse.

Great Thank you.

Are you suggesting NOT to fit a plug and to check the filter or is it worthe fitting a plug anyway

As Richard says, LN engineering are the manufacturers of that version. It fits most water cooled cars from 1998 except V6, GT3 and 911 turbos. Torque to 26n/m or 19ft/lbs only!

Hi Richard,

I've had a look on the Euro Car Parts site but can't find a magnetic drain plug listed, perhaps I'm searching in the wrong section. Have you got a part number by any chance please?

Cheers.

It was Richard S who said he got it from Euro.

As he is the one who knew the recommended torque figure, why not give Matthew a try: http://www.type911shop.co.uk/shop/article_1140/Sump-Plug-M18x1.5-with-Magnet.html?sessid=RrGXY5JZM7CSlmzqs8qis4B14YmRS3yHutznXnFhhfZPeXJlUabwKZQE0GejiAOB&shop_param=cid%3D1%26aid%3D1140%26
