Major service prices

My 2006 Cayman S is due for its 4 year major service in October and so I have been in contact with my local OPC (Sutton Coldfield Birmingham) to arrange it. I have also asked for a price and was surprised at the quote of £1014. Even on a good day this sounds excessive. A friend of mine has a similar aged Cayman S and he paid £873 last May for the same service. The Porsche brochure says £640 plus £150 for brake fluid change. Am I missing a trick ? Does anyone else have any experience of pricing here ?

Thanks

You can find the latest service price brochure online too: [link=http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/porscheservice/servicepricing/]http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/porscheservice/servicepricing/[/link] It is even better: £610 plus £150 for brake fluid change (inc VAT)! Best to ring them and ask what the extra price is for... Take your own oil (still some £23 for 4litres from Costco; you need 8 and a bit litres) and you will save almost another £50 (£46 for 8litres from Costco and 1 litres from online at £12) * You have to tell them you are bringing your own oil for the service.

I would ask before buying your own oil. My OPC will not allow you to bring your own oil in, it has to be supplied by them. Couldn't complain too much as they discounted their oil and it ended up cheaper that way, although I still have a load of oil I haven't used yet.

Yeah, forgot about that... most OPC give 10% discount on parts for PCGB members. I say most as not all do; all the Porsche Retail Group OPCs do but they are all in and around London...

I just paid £1070 for my 4 years, 20k service today. Don't forget price for parts are extra e.g 6 s plugs will cost £85 and so on. Yes it's not cheap but my car is still under Porsche Warranty so have to go back to OPC for Service. No choice.

As mentioned, there are a number of extra requirements on the 4 year mark which bumps up the price of the service considerably - clever price marketing one might wonder... ;) My £1014 quote at the OPC was reduced with the OPC discount and removing time specific requirements like the spark plugs (I was due on mileage but not age). Unfortuntely OPC were still nowhere near my specialist price wise. They did it all for about £350. If you need the OPC stamp though, get your 10% knocked off from your PCGB membership and see if they will do you more of a discount (I've heard a lot do with some negotiation) and take your own oil. Hope that helps! :)

Mine is in for its 4 year service this week. Price quoted. Major service..................£590 Change brake fluid...........£150 Replace spark plugs.........£160 Check drive belt..............£42 Replace tyre sealant........£47 Inspect airbag & mounts...£50 Total............................£1039 Able to supply own oil and get my 10% discount, makes it a bit cheaper...

Mine is not quite ready for a service yet, but I am getting a bit nervous about some of the prices quoted here!! Independant Porsche specialists seem to be a fair deal cheaper and they make a big thing about still being warranty compliant due to some European legislation or other. Is this a big no no then or why not use these people? At least half the price of Porsche main dealer, uses genuine Porsche parts etc. Appreciate you cannot sell on with a 'full Porsche warranty' claim but Porsche do seem to be having a laugh at our expense. My short term owner experience up to now seems to be, 'he's got a Porsche, lets rip the backside out of him'...... Might just be cynical due to age though.

The European Legislation does exist, but Porsche will not honour any warranty claim once it's serviced outside their OPC chain. You could argue with them, I tried to put that point across to my OPC, but got stonewalled by them. If you want to use the warranty, keep the servicing by the OPC's.

I opted to have the belt changed rather than inspected. It seems pointless to inspect at 4 years and then change at the next service anyway ?

My first post on this forum - I've had a Cayman for around 6 months now and am very happy with it! Thought I'd share my experience regarding warranty. Recently my car was approaching it's 2nd birthday and therefore coming to the end of it's initial manufacturer's warranty period. I had earlier had the first service (including brake fluid change) carried out by a local specialist as the cost was quite a bit less than the OPC quoted price. Anyhiow, my car had been suffering from a couple of rattles (tailgate and speaker grille) so I booked it in to the OPC for them to take a look. They did a really thorough job, curing all of the noises (well the tailgate still occasionally squeaks...) and in addition they replaced a leaky rear damper and carried out a 4 wheel alignment. All of this was done under the manufacturer's warranty, at no charge to me. Given the above I guess not all OPC's have the same policy with regard to non-dealer servicing. Also, the OPC asked me to give them the opportunity to match the specialist's pricing on any future servicing and I shall certainly do so. All in all I was very inpressed with my OPC's attitude, which seems to differ from what I have read on a number of forums.

I recently got a major service on my 07 Cayman S from Mario at Porsheworx in Belsize Park. Cost was £570 incl VAT and this incl spark plugs, filters, oil, new wiper blades, coolant etc. Service was exceptional with Mario being really honest and knowledgeable. Have taken her back today for 4 new tyres (Michelin Pilot Sports), alignment and her MOT. Will let you know how that goes. I really recommend them as a great alternative to OPC.
