well i put the boxster off the rd this winter to do one or two things that need to be done one off which is to switch the stock manifold out well first bolt head spun straight off then thought give it a gentle warm to loosen it but i have no way of doing it so when i was down at my local garage getting tyres on my other car i got on about it to one of the mechanics he said "ye bring it down bit heat and they will come out" well a couple of days later i phoned all 6 on drivers side had snapped they have tried plus gas and easy out technic and broke the easy out now they are saying they will have to take the head of to drill it out, told them no way so pickin it up on sat going to try the nut welding method has anybody tried it or has anybody got any better ideas

Tex sorry to say but the damage has been done! If the easyout is broken it will not drill out. Welding nuts on often works but you need to have a good mig not a small diy thing, use bigger nuts if posable and someone who is a good welder use high amps and you may be lucky. All porsches have problems with exhaust bolts and studs, I think it's because in general the systems last a long time,if you work on them all the time you know the problems and how to get over them. take your time! good luck

thanks bernard, got it back from garage last sat they must have got the easy out out and they had tried the nut and bolt weld so i decided after all just to drill and helicoil got some nice shiney cobalt drills they go thru the broken bolts like a knife thru butter.

i dont understand why porsche didn't use stainless bolts in the first place
