Manual sunroof conversion

My electric sunroof worked sporadicaly for the first year of owner ship but then the electrics packed up, no amount of faffing about with a multimeter was going to bring it back to life and getting it fixed profesionaly seemed like a costly and fairly pointless option. Recently-ish a thread popped up on Rennlist about converting the roof to manual using latches from the earlier 924, as luck would have a pair of latches appeared on e-bay which I then won for the princely sum of £4.40 + P&P!

Fitting the latches to the sunroof itself is childs play, they bolt straight in were the original mechanism sits using the same bolt holes. The only adjustment needed was to cut away some of the roof lining (on the sunroof).

Removing the motor and cable from the car is a bit more involved. The motor electrics unplug, which is handy and the motor itself comes away from the car quite easily. The cable on the other hand is bolted into the roof of the car with allen head bolts, you obviously have to remove the headling to get o this but so long as you are methodical it isn't too bad. I left the original guide/runners in place to give the latches something to clip in to. I'm pleased to say that after a brief test run I haven't heard any new squeaks or rattles, the roof seems to be held in place just as well as before.

Sadly I can't get any pictures up of my handiwork because I do not have a digital camera but to give you an idea here is a link to the original Rennlist thread.
