Tim,

This subject has been talked about at some length on Rennlist recently. If the "!" light goes off without pressing the reset button the problem is most likely a wiring fault since, under normal circumstances, the light is driven only by the central informer - which will only reset with the button. The chances are that you have a wire which has chafed and is intermittently shorting to ground. It's likely to be a bit of a pig to find though. Look at the wiring runs and see if there are any which are pulled tight against metal corners, or through holes in the bulkhead with worn, decayed or missing grommets. Lots of possibilities I'm afraid.

Hope that helps,

Dave.

When I bought my 2nd 944 this happened everytime I used "high" beam on the lights.[:D]
Someone had wired it up wrong [:'(]

hi

Do you think it could be to do with the under boot light as i have noticed that there is no blub in the holder??

thanks for all the help

Tim,

The missing bulb is probably not relevant. Many owners remove it because it's a very common cause of battery drain. If the bit of bent mental which operates it gets slightly out of alignment the light stays on when the lid is closed - hence a flat battery. If some electrical madmen has been let loose (like in Mark's example) it's anyone's guess what the problem could be. All I can suggest is a careful analysis of WHEN it occurs and try to discover a pattern (if there is one). That might lead you somewhere.

Regards

Dave

Hi guys

I think i have found it!!!!! When running the car handbrake off etc (on a flat surface!!!) I was wiggling the wires comming from the light in the boot area and the light kept on comming on. I found that the switch keeps getting stuck and the push in connector for the boot light the brown/white wire has been cut and a wire in comming from this joint is going back into the car. I think it maybe to do with the alarm system. I have cleaned the connections as best i can and i cannot get it to happen again. Is the brown wire the + or - as it did not have any insulation on the join. Will keep you all posted with the outcome...........................

thanks for all the help

Tim
