Hi there - quite confused here - I've seen a few videos on youtube where guys race down with their 996's tt and the onboard computer says 1.2 bar ... now mine, driven vigorously, never goes more than 0.6-0.7 bar - never got near 1.0.

Again, this is on a long straight I have here and I do full 3rd and 4th gear acceleration. Can't do more without getting into danger.

Is it normal ? spirited driving between two gears getting 0.7 bar's ? on the onboard computer ? should it read more ?

oh by the way, its 100% stock my car - no mods at all, no exauhst , no filter, nothing. it is as it came from the factory 8 years ago !

Porsche turbocharged cars have a huge capability for performance, which is nevertheless restricted for various reasons.
A simple way to free that power is to modify the car's engine management system i.e. remap EngineControlUnit, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_control_unit.
CarGraphic, DMS are but a couple of them.

Thanks for the reply but ... what is the normal pressure that it should read on the computer ? 0.7 is a normal value ? or should be higher ? the 1.2 that I usually see in boy racer's videos are tuned cars ? a stock car doing 0.7 is normal ?

The high pressure reading you are seeing on youtube are the remapped cars. If you have a standard 996TT then 0.7 is normal.

I will eventually go for a remap. Just haven't decided what one

You need to "JailBreak" your 996tt...[;)]

For now its more than enough :) Im new to Porsche ownership and to supercars infact - the closest thing I had was an Audi S3... The only thing I will change in the near future is the exauhst, would like a more grunty note. I will choose purely and on the basis of the note, not of the hp - 420 are more than enough for me. For now .)

Mine was 0.7 bar before adding new aluminium divertors and then it would hold 0.8 bar on stock setting [;)].

My 996 tt has (amongst a lot of other things) a remap, so does that make me a....

"boy racer" ? its just that i have not been caled that since i had my subaru :)
