May Brewery Trip

I have offered to organise a continental trip for Mike and would like your help.

As a change from a standard brewery trip, would any R10 members be interested in either a Champagne run with a visit to the cellars of Veuve Clicquot or trip to a vineyard in Bordeaux?

Nothing concrete as yet as I would like some feedback but Champagne could be done as a 2 night stopover and Bordeaux would probably be 3 or 4 nights.

Thanks in anticipation.

Marc

How many bottles can you fit in a 911 anyway?

Hmmm...interesting...

I worked for a company in the Charentes region, and spent many a happy month touring around the Champagne / Bordeaux area. (great beaches) I strongly recommend a visit to Cognac itself but also have some contacts in "private" distilliaries out that way....and these are just as much fun as the real thing.

How about a visit to Carlsberg in Northampton ?? - just as much fun...(well perhaps not) but local nonetheless

Never looked round Carlseberg, but if it's anything like the St. Austell brewery it would be quite interesting.

Another alternative is the Country Pile [name escapes me for now] owned by Rothschilds out near Thame. Apparently it has the finest wine cellar in England.

Nice localised drive out, visit stately pile, lunch, walk etc

Some two dozen or so members replied to my survey expressing interest in weekend/overseas tours - hopefully we can find a date/budget/venue/itinery to suit at least a viable group of them and others. I could arrange an email to them once we have an outline plan to gauge interest.

A trip doesn't necessarily have to be in May - but it will require sufficient notice to ensure people have free diaries, etc.

Re: the other propoals for a local brewery/Country Estate, this could be run as a day/evening trip - any volunteers?

Thanks Allan,

I'm up for anything like that! Would you be interested in a sojourn to France?

Marc

Thanks Steve,

Any insider info is always welcome in organising stuff like this. I have a good friend in Marinique who could probably recommend some of the better and less well known vineyards in Bordeaux.

I'll wait and see how many people commit to going and may need to pick your brains . . .

I'm sure that line will be picked up by those who know you well!!!

Cheers

Marc
