Hello,i am from over the 944 way mainly, but on Monday first thing will be going to seriously look at a 87 E 3.2 coupe carrera sport ,Just a couple of sappy questions if thats ok??,Are there any differences on the sport spec other than the Spoilers front and back,ie suspension and brakes???Apparently this car has no LSD is that always the case/ ok?Can anyone on here recomend a baby seat that fits nicely in the back for a circa 11onth old...?What is the popular tyre fitment for road driving.Sorry for all the questions, thanks for any help/tips in advance.
MarkK(Very exited!)

Good call Mark, have owned a few of these, very strong robust. The Sport version has sport suspension front rear spoilers. Go for late G50 gearbox car. Look great in GP White. Issues with wearing clutch and maybe top end at about 100,000 miles +[:)]

Just make sure you check the bodywork very, very carefully for rot. No difference as far as brakes on the Sport model. LSD was an option.

Thanks! Its a white 87 (so should be a G50 shouldn't it?),Where should i be looking for rot??Sills ,leading edge back panels?,are there any places that are classic but not somewhere would normally look??Do they rot that bad!??
Thanks again,MarkK

Only all 911's you can get rot at around the bottom corners of the windscreen and rear window, as water just sits there, any bubbling here, will mean Window out to fix the rust under the seals..

Also because you do not get any wheel arch liners on a 3.2, both the A & B door posts can seriously rust. And because of this double check the exposed oil lines as these can can damaged and age quickly..

Double get any oil leaks.. [expect a couple], just so you know where they are coming from, some are an easily fixed, or can be lived with.. others require a top-end strip down.. As for a top-end rebuild, then these can be required no matter how many miles, it all depends on what sort of driving has been done...? Motorway [Good] weekend shopping [BAD]. I had mine rebuilt at 78k.

Differences on the Sport models I not sure exactly, however the only ones still left are likely to be interia upgrades.. extra leather & electrics on seats etc... Suspension was originally different, but I am sure it will have been replaced by now [8|]. Brakes were all the same unless you are looking at a wide body supersport which had the Turbos brakes, again spoilers may have been changed and there were also different options here, some had the Turbo lipped rear spoiler, some have the flat sport rear spoiler, others didn't have one.. all a matter of personal prefference. [don't forget it you have a rear spoiler, then there should also be a front spoiler].

Gearbox and LSD... Wouldn't worry about the LSD.. As for the G50.. then this appeared on 1987 models, so it should have one. [My 1987 D has one]. These are fairly bulletproof, but do have an upgraded Clutch Fork & pin and Guide Tube available, which should have been fitted if the clutch has been replaced by a Porsche Specialist.

Good hunting.. It will be nice to see another 3.2 on the streets of Leicester.

Adam.

The worst I have seen (88 model) had corrossion in:

Front wings and headlight bowls
Both bumpers
A pillar and lower screen surround
B pillar and rear panel incl "kidney bowl"
engine lid corner
roof near rear vent and sunroof
Cil covers and cills
Underside, inner panels etc.

The best I have seen ( same year) had no apparent rust at all and all original paintwork.

There are plenty of cars to chose from and if I were in your position I would walk away from any car with obvious bodywork damage. Having said that, I would expect to see bumper corrosion and stone chips, and neither of these would put me off an otherwise unmarked car. Just be very, very careful, Mark.

There are not too many good ones left and those that qualify cost that much more. Lastly beware a newly refinished car!!

These are beautiful and rewarding cars to own and drive. Bad ones can be a financial disaster. Good luck.

Went to the specialist today, drove the car, really wanted to buy a 3.2 as wife and i love the Fuchs and styling of the model,This particlar car was quite nice.... but i was won over by the creature comforts of a 964 that they had.Just want to say thanks to everyone that replied to my post. Please flash your lights if you see a white 964 pottering around Leicester, again big thanks.

I love the 3.2's!

Why bother with a 964? Unless its the turbo and then you need twice the budget anyway ;-)

If I buy a second 911, it will be a 3.2....
