Hi ,
anyone had experience that ?
I was driving and suddenly the car stall, I start again and it was not running properly up to 2.5 k , it stall several time and then I break down, the guys at the garage send me this picture with one of the coils melted at the top...
I was really surprised that happened any idea what could have caused it to melt ...

thanks

Konstantin

It looks like the oil in the coil has come out or is it the plastic Coil cap that has melted due to heat from a tracking spark ?

No I've not seem this but its all posisble faults .

FYI: I did as a matter of cause replace both of my coils due to high mileagea while ago and the engine now picks up a lot quicker and tickover is smoother

..so expect to see a differnce I would also replace the 2nd coil as part of this repair here as coils degrade over time and the car's are getting old ... if one goes the other could also been on its way out

hi, thank for your reply!
yes I would replace both, I am waiting for the verdict from the garage, I hope it's just a failure due to age ....
they said they did not see that often, witch rather makes me worry ...

Hi there,

I had this problem for a while, along with heat damage to the ignition triggers mounted just in front of the twin coils.

The car was worked on by a couple of good independents over 3 or 4 years, but without the cause being diagnosed. In the end, I tried a Porsche specialist that was also a Bosch ignition specialist (No 5 Garage in Acton, West London). Their diagnosis, having used their sophisticated Bosch diagnostic equipment, was an incorrectly routed HT lead, that was causing some current leakage and arcing at the top of the coils.

This was 12 months ago now, and I have only done less than 1,000 miles since, but the problem has not recurred.

Hope that helps.

Paul
