have cups at the moment, was thinking of trying 888 are they as good?

not mad about the noise toyos make sounds like all wheel bearing are shot

double the ammount of thread than cups but do they wear quicker?

Just ordered R888s for me. No doubt the michelin is a better a tyre overal, but is it worth the extra cash. Interestingly, R888s cost more than Yokos 48s!

Have to say that by far the stickiest and best cornering tyres I saw were by 2 cars both wearing the same rubber at Oulton last year - and they were both on Dunlop DZ03G and swear by them.

I'd be considering those also....!

I have Toyos r888s on one of my 944 turbos, they do make a buzz at motorway speeds more on some surfaces, one thing they are better than the cups at is standing water, used cups before though and cup's dry grip is nothing short of awsome especially when they are new.
Toyos are cheaper though. If you use your car more in the summer and want no compromise get cups,if you venture out alot when there are odds it could be wetter get the 888s..?

I second the Dunlop tyres. Ive used the previous tyre the D01J for a good 2 years + find they are one of THE best tyres around...
Not keen on the Michelins, they "go off" ie overheat when pushed hard...+ i suspect the Toyo 888,s do the same as they are a soft rubber...
The Dunlops are a VERY predictable tyre...

I 'third' the Dunlops , will be replacing Toyos with them. As ever , limited supplier(s) and limited range of sizes.

Agreed, so i couldnt see the dunlops in the right size for me, and they are still more pricey than R888s

I've just looked for the Dunlops - the right sizes are available (from Camskill), but they're a lot more expensive than the Toyos. £900 deliverd for 4 compared to £600 for the R888s in the same sizes (from tyretraders, where I got my last set)

Dunlop is a far better tyre than toyo in dry,and not quite as good in the wet,but very close.
Dunlops overheat quicker and go off before mich cups.
Khumo are also very good, dry or wet, nothing like as noisy at toyo or dunlops.
On the 993rs we run dunlop 265 and 235 18,and khumo 285 and 225 18

Paul, I dont doubt you are right. However, right now the £300 quid buys me 1/2 a set of tyres or a test session, which will be worth more 1 sec a lap advantage I'd get. I think I'll be 10secs off pace right now!! [:(]

Which Khumos did you run, I had a look around and couldnt work it out.

You can get a hard compound rear and med front, works well.
For sprints and hillclimbs med works well allround

Ian,
Have you tried Mr Tyre Motorsport who are the main UK supplier for the Dunlops ?

I used to get my SSRs from them, and they were cheaper than anyone else .....

Jamie

In response to my own question ......... !

Mr Tyre Motorsport will do the DZ03Gs for .....

255/40/17 @ £229 + VAT each
225/45/17 @ £125 + VAT each
Delivery £14.95

So, all in for 4 tyres I make that £829.15 - better than Camskills but still a lot more than the R888s

Jamie
