N numbers should not be mixed. But to help you is it the 19" N1 front or rear you are after?

Would n1's on the rear and n2's on the front not be ok though? Obviously wouldn't mix on Tje same axle. Im after a n1 235/35 19 for the front.

Anyone mixed up N1 and later spec N2's etc on their Cayman? I have N1's all round but discovered a nail in my front left this morning which is non repairable and so I'm worried I won't be able to get the N1's for it now as they were very scarce this time last year when I was looking for them.

No do not even mix axles: Try (You will have to call them as they don't list either N1 or N2 online): [link=http://blackboots-px.rtrk.co.uk/index.php]http://blackboots-px.rtrk.co.uk/index.php[/link] However, if you put in the size, Merit Tyre list both the N1 and N2 versions: [link=http://www.merityre.co.uk/online-tyre-quote/search.php]http://www.merityre.co.uk/online-tyre-quote/search.php[/link]

Sarah, There are fronts on the members sales section on the size you have stated. The guy is based in Cardiff but can deliver.

Don't understand this whole "N" number thing. My Cayman S originally had Michelin Pilot Sport N3 but they seem almost unobtainable and now have N4. Haven't noticed any dramatic difference - what is the difference, does anyone really know?. I thought the N was an acknowledgement of a Porsche spec rather than anything to do with actual tyre design and spec

Get a bunch of Porsche owners together for long and see how easy it is to start a debate on this. To keep things right I allways have matching N rated tyres but do feel this to be something of a con. N ratings do have relevance when a model is approved on them but now they say Goodyear have an N rated tyre but as far as I know it wasn't approved on anything built earlier than the latest range of cars and which were they approved on? On the earlier Porsches which by the time I had them the approved tyres were no longer made I found definitely not wise to mix makes or tread patterns, the handling was always best on a matched set. No surprise there then. I would like to hear a good and worthwhile explanation, from a tyre expert, not a sales person.

Digging up an old thread here as I currently need one rear tyre, I have N1's all round and no surprise that I can't find a rear (265 35 19) N1 anywhere. East London OPC said I'd have to replace all 4. I contacted Michelin and they said the following: Technically we would find the fitting of N2 on the rear and N1 on the front acceptable and therefore only necessitating the purchase of two new tyres, however we are aware this could invalidate any warranty you have with Porsche therefore we would recommend that you check with your local Porsche dealer. I can't believe that I'm going to have to waste virtually Ă‚ÂŁ900 of decent tyres because one needs replacing. []

I feel your pain .... I have looked at my list of favoured (good service and generally have stock) tyre suppliers .... not good news. Of the 6 only one had stock and that was in an N2. An ebay part worn maybe your best solution unless you replace all four. Here is an example: [link=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-265-35-19-Y-Michelin-Pilot-Sport-2-N1-/320735060179?pt=UK_Cars_Tyres_RL&hash=item4aad4ca0d3]http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-265-35-19-Y-Michelin-Pilot-Sport-2-N1-/320735060179?pt=UK_Cars_Tyres_RL&hash=item4aad4ca0d3[/link]

Thanks Nick. It is real pain too! I had seen some on ebay, just not sure about fitting used tyres, although the one you posted they have good feedback. If I end up changing all 4 I'll probably put the 3 good ones up on ebay!

There are these too http://www.benjyalloys.co.uk/Product-8400/ If no repairs then can see why there should be a problem. I have used tyres on my track wheels!

Thanks, looks like this is my only option other than replacing all 4. Will most tyre places fit used tyres? Also, what things do I need to be aware of with the tyre pressure monitoring?

Most good fitters will. As for your Tyre Pressure monitoring, if the transducer is 4-5 years old chances are in will need replacing in the near future. However your dealer will be able to tell you exactly. Porsche recommend replacing the valve stem regardless when the tyres are replaced. It's a good idea to have a spare one as the Porsche one differs from the generic one the tyre shops seem to have. (You are sat down though) they are around 15 pounds. 955 361 053 00 is the part number. You can get away with replacing the internal spring valve but these can be prone to leak after removing to deflate the old tyre.

Thanks. Is the part number and price for the valve stem? If so, any idea on how much the transducer is? I've never had tyre pressure monitoring before, presumably decent tyre fitters will know what they're doing?! Hope so anyway!

Of note today in the members for sale thread: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=652242&mpage=1&key=&#652242 As for the transducer they are around 100 pounds inc VAT each (Be careful if you order these as there are variations between model years ie an 07 transducer will not work on an 08 for example. Make sure you use your VIN number when placing an order.)

Thanks ever so much Nick, I actually ordered the one on the ebay link you posted and it arrived today, looks just perfect as its about the same amount of tread as the other rear tyre. Should hopefully keep me going a bit longer until the other tyres are nearer the end of their life! Will speak to my OPC on the 8th when I'm in for the coupe clinic about the transducer as I'm not in an immediate hurry to change the tyre. Thanks again for all your help, very much appreciated!

If your going to the clinic ask when your car is given a diagnostic check how much battery life remains in the current transmitters. They can call this up very easily.

So, came home last night to find my 'good' rear tyre completely flat, put some air in which held pretty well before a top up in the morning to get me to my 11am clinic at Guildford OPC. As soon as it was up on the ramp we could see a huge screw in the tyre just a few mm from the wall, the worst possible result. Anyway, outcome was they agreed I could mix N1's on the front with N2's on the rear without any problems with warranty, so I had to pay a bit over the odds for the tyres but at least I now have 2 lovely new tyres for the winter that they fitted so they can't say they didn't agree with it! I never fitted the tyre off eBay so I have a nice 265 35 19 N1 for sale and about to go on eBay. It has about 4/5mm and is in very good condition if anyone is in need? They also replaced my rusty nuts foc too and washed the car while I had a 30 mins drive in a new Cayenne with one of the Experience Centre drivers so a thumbs up for Guildford who made parting with a lot of money seem like a good morning out!!

Result! Would have been worth getting that in writing!
