Michelin tyre N-ratings

I know there are old threads about N-ratings on tyres on this forum but I am aware that this topic has moved on somewhat. Pirelli in particular now have model specific ratings such as the NB0 rating for Boxsters. I am looking for some Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tyres for the rear of my 986 Boxster S because the previous owner put new ones on the front recently which are N3 rated (which are fantastic). Blackcircles show a choice of N3 or N4 for the rear. Does anyone know if this is purely a development of the tyre from N3 to N4 specifically for the 986 or is it a construction for Porsches of any type? Any info. would be appreciated

I would think the latter, as the PS2 was / is nominated for other models.

Porsches of any type.

Porsche do not approve modern tyres for obsolete (ie. not current) models.

N-rated tyres for a 986 would either be for the (old) tyre technology of the period or a modern type for a current/ recent model in the range including Panamera/Macan or Cayenne if the same size.

I don’t bother with N-rating for my 2006 which has, arguably, the best high performance road tyres fitted - Michelin PS4s.

What kind of oil are you using.......

Agree with alistairp, with regard to the Michelin PS4. Transformed my Audi S3 and BMW 3 series. Need to put some miles on my Pirellis before I can justify replacing them on the Boxster!? Think its worth having the manufacturer designated tyres. Just had 2 prematurely worn tyres replaced on the BMW because the tyre dealer fitted non BMW to the rear and BMW to the front. The dealer paid for the replacement.

there are PS4 and PS4S the PS4S are the sporty tyre. ie the real replacement from the PS2, which then went to Supersports and then PS4S.

The PS4 is another line down the rank and was NOT the PS2/Supersport replacment.

The PS4S replacement is due out very soon, I even think it's out on SPorty BMW, but it's a BMW tyre and still called a PS4S but it's not the same tyre.
