Microscope pics of HT bits

After changing my HT components i decided to put the charred remains under my metallurgical microscope, i disected the rotor arm and one of the dizzy cap pick ups to see what was going on.

The rotor arm seems to have suffered the most damage, amongst the burnt matter is blobs of previously molten metal, a massive gorge down the centre and worm like erosion features. The dizzy cap is less interesting but seems to be featuring many stack like structures of burnt material aswell as funny turquoise bits.

Struggling to get the images into my post so just follow the link to the set in flickr.

Thats so cool.

To the eye, i bet the components still looked ok?

Comparison pictures would be a good idea.

Tell me - could you do a used Cam belt?

Unfortunately i'd have to remove the new bits off my car to look at them and the dizzy cap was a pig to get on so it's not coming off, i'll see if i've got another one kicking around. Unfortunately i don't have a cambelt.

I've got the cambelt that has caused me all kinds of grief by failing (losing teeth) and bending three valves []

However, you don't really need a microscope to appreciate it, as you can clearly see all of the remaining teeth are coming unstuck on one edge...[:-]

I love this but not sure why!

I think every time you change a part on the 944 you should put it under the microscope and post the photos.[:D]
