Hi all

hope you dont me popping an note for help.

I'm have a 2.9 boxster and its a great car however I like older cars so a couple of years ago I bought a 914 to restore. Its in the garage in bits and will remain there for another couple of years as I gradually fix and fettle it and try not to freeze myself to death in the process.

In the meantime Im still hankering after an everyday car and I was thinking the 924 S could be a good candidate (to replace the boxster).

Im in the midlands area and I was wondered if there was any 924 gatherings I could pop over to so I could get to know the car better before I looked in earnest.

thanks in advance

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I have a 924S as a daily, seemingly doing 20 000 miles a year in it!

I did the 6 hours of Mallory park in it, but also drive it in winter on winter tyres.

I take it all over Europe and it has been very reliable: 32 mpg and I am not exactly driving like miss daisy.

I'm near Newark on Trent- car is maintained at PH Sports cars: Simon is ex OPC. Happy to talk to you, take you for a spin/let you drive.

Cheers,

Bert

Hi Bert

thanks for coming back to me. That would be great thanks. Ill pm you to see when your free.

I noticed you have had a 944 as well. Presuming you prefer the 924S?

I used to do a lot of mileage up to 40 k per year, luckily I dont anymore but you never know I could be forced to 1 day. For some reason I dont fancy putting miles on a boxster (the thought of the depreciation and running costs over a few years hard driving makes me wince:).

Thanks

Andrew

I've used a 944 for the past ten years pretty much as a daily driver - around 30-35k miles per annum. OK, the past 4 years has been in an S2, but otherwise no significant difference between a 944 and a 924S, other than improved ecomomy of the lower frontal area of the 924S. Winter tyres make a huge, huge difference (and that is from someone that can't normally tell when his tyres are 5psi down).

I know what you mean about winter tyres. I have them on both my boxster and my wifes x3 and they make an amazing difference. I did work out the other day that Ive had my winter tyres on 6 months so far this winter... that must say something about our awful weather :)

I must say Im quite torn between the 924s and the 944s2, I know they are different styling wise, I like both but I quite like the 924 as I dont see many around.

Berts kindly offered a look an ride in his 924s so Im sure that will help.

Thanks

Andrew

Andrew,
My wife has driven 924's since selling her MGB GT when the kids got too big for the back seat even with the squab removed-that was a 924 Lux in 1981 followed by a 924S in 1991 which we still have & is her daily driver-she loves it to bits & even after 95k miles but only 2nd owner, still drives like a new car. We've had a 964 C2 which she also drove alternately with it better for motorways because white van man stays clear but always returns to her beloved 924S.
When we sold the 964,I bought the red 924S off e-bay for £950 for a back-up for us both but mainly as a trackday car for me -I have fitted Spax lower front springs, dropped the rear using the eccentrics, fitted a 26.7mm turbo front a/roll bar & shortly -when the weather improves a rear turbo a/roll bar in time for my next track day-the PCGB Anglesey day.
I've had the suspension set up with 2.5 ' negative camber-front but otherwise it's good for road & track use.

No power steering,ABS,electronics etc just a hoot to drive ,slide & gravelise(see my friends comments on R18 forum.)
