hi

ok i give up [8|]
i have a 1986 944s oval dash now how do you reset the milage trip?????????????

please dont laugh as 3 of us have looked and cant find anything obvious as the normal button in the dash

bigal

It's the 944 initiation test. [:D]

It's in line with the middle of the central air vents, right next to the instruments. It only works with the ignition on because the button pushes a microswitch.

Ok I'll laugh off line. [;)]

It's on the center heater vents. The trip meter can be reset to zero with the ignition on, by pressing the ribbed button in the right hand part of the the center air vents. [:D][:D][:D]

Germanic humour!

hi

cheers guys[:D]

found it now

lol and i thought i had pushed every button on the car as well[:)]

ok everyone can laugh now as it is obvious when you know where to look

cheers bigal

I am glad someone else failed this aswell!!!

As I was keeping stum and waited till fellow 944 owner/neighbour showed me.

[:D]

Full of suprises these cars!!

I had to RTFM too (Read The Fu*&%n Manual) too, unfortunately mine doesn't work! I think I need a new microswitch...Maplins!

Maybe, if you haven't done it already is to take dash off and check that the switch is aligned properly. It may off slipped out of place slightly. Even though they should be attached properly, I found mine had some gaffer tape over it, maybe from new as it is well passed it's sell by date and there are bits here and there of the same carbon dating.
Or just use a calculator to work out your miles. Still, nice to have everything working.
Just found the switch for rear screen wash, it's the one with the symbol of a hand holding a scrunched up bit of news paper.

Sojourn have you tried pressing it when moving as well as stationary?

I have heard of a few cases of teh cogs jamming when you press it while moving, so I only ever press mine when stationary, purely as a form of paranoia []

If yours is bust it might be worth trying whilst on the move, just in case it frees up (or I'm just ever the optimist for a quick fix)

3 speed wipers plus intermittent got me till I was browsing the manual one day - I'd never tried pushing the stalk past the second speed before, and I know I'm not the only one.

Cheers lads,

Will try the moving/non moving reset in the morning. If that doesn't work I will check the alignment.

Thanks again!,

Soj

What about (if you have them) the headlight washer. Caught me by surprise driving at night not long after I had bought the car. Went to clean screen, obviously knocked the stalk the other way and found fine mist appearing over my bonnet? I do it now if it's sunny, see if I can create a rainbow.
