Following daro911's priceless info. re. service costs, here's some more feedback using the recommended Reading OPC (prices net of 10% discount):

Oil change: £85
Oil filter : £14
Brake fluid change: £79
Own oil : £65 (Halford's selling 4l for £29 at present)

When you add on VAT, it's job done (max 2 hours and Service log stamped) for around £275! My usual (East London) OPC couldn't get anywhere near this........

Wait till you hear this..One of our Scottish members took his car into the local OPC ,and in order to keep costs down he said he would supply his own mobil 1,he was told that they could not guarentee the warranty as they had not supplied the oil .They said could not guarantee the source of his oil .

Mike for the record and a sense of fair play [;)] when I gave East London the option to price match my best alternative OPC service quote they pondered for a few seconds and agreed to price match, thus saving me a 100 miles round trip and retaining me as a service customer. When push comes to shove they can be pushed :ROFLMAO:

I'm confused - they charge 85 for oil and change?
And 65 if you supply your own?
That makes using their oil considerably cheaper?

Definitely confused...

Mark,

Should have made it a little clearer......the £85 is the OPC labour charge for changing the oil and oil filter. The actual price for 9l of Mobil 1 at Halfords today (current special offer) was £69.

(Not only that - any Halfords purchase above £50 before close tomorrow gets you a £10 voucher against any purchases made before 18 March, effectively reducing my oil cost to £59. Nice shop........sounds like a good opportunity to get your oil in!)

Mike.

Ahh!

Thanks! That's clearer[:D]

I have a stock of Mobil 1 I bought in France for less than 20 pounds per 5 litres (hey have changed the pack size over there), so Halfords are saved from losing too much money by selling to me at the moment. However anyone else with an impending oil change should get down there asap![;)]

Brian,

This is really taking the **$$

The manual states the acceptable oil grades. If the oil "fits" there should be no arguement.

Brian,

Would you be prepared to name & shame the OPC? Alternatively you could e-mail me instead if you don't want to embarrass them.

Last November I tried unsuccessfully with 3 OPC's to book my car in for the "Yearly Maintenance" service as I had only covered 4K miles during the past 12 months / since the 24K mile service. Two of the OPC's were prepared to offer the yearly maintenance service but at a premium. The other OPC which is owned by PAG, offered to do the yearly service for a reasonable price BUT advised me they wouldn't rumber stamp my service history to reflect this. Their reason for this was "service intervals have changed since MY2002 and Porsche want to discourage owners from opting for the yearly maintenance service, when covering less than 9K miles P/A, in between the scheduled services". Bollox to that I said and opted for the 36K mile service [@ 24,600 miles] and supplied my own Mobil1" So this full service cost me only slightly more than I had been quoted by 2 OPC's for the yearly maintenance service, plus it's probably more beneficial for my car in the long run.

You have to admire the OPC's for having the balls to charge £100+ for liquid gold, sorry Mobil1. As it's possible to source Mobil1 4L circa £16 wholesale, I'd love to know how much an OPC pays per litre? I was charged £120 for 9L during the 24K mile service and provided with yet another 1L top-up bottle which was left in the front bay beside the unopened one from the previous service.

Cheers,

Andy

[:)]This could be fun seeing who can guess the dealers price per litre but I would reckon they pay £2+ something per litre :ROFLMAO:

I was told this when I enquired about my service at Glasgow OPC?

Have since heard other garages have stopped allowing owners to supply oil, ..period.

As well as Glasgow, Aberdeen is refusing to accept customer supplied oil....same reason, cannot verify it's source. And neither will consider the 10% discount for being a member of the PCGB.

Not happy

That's got to be the lamest excuse ever. Show them the manual - it says which grades (not even brands) are acceptable. So they cannot verify the source of an unopened pack of Mobil1?[&:] They don't need to...

You'd think they were scared you've got it cheaper elsewhere or something...[8|]
