Minor Starting Problem

All,

I sometimes have a minor irritant when starting the car. If I've been on a journey, stop the car then try to restart it within a couple of minutes, the engine will crank but not fire. If I touch the throttle then it will fire immediately.

Is it worth replacing the DME fuel relay, or is this something else? Not a big deal, but any information appreciated!

Cheers/John

I think the DME reply problem is more serious. Will not start at all.

But I'm interested in your problem because I have that too - but only seems to happen if I start, drive for only a few minutes, stop for a few minutes then try to restart. ie once car has been properly warmed up I can stop and start as much as I like. I've not tried touching the throttle - which I'd been told not to do - I just crank it a bit longer and it croaks into action.

Possibly the engine temp sensor. It's mounted on the cylinder head of cylinder number three at the back left hand side of the engine. Not easy to get to, proably best from underneath but that might cause the problem you report. It can be tested in situ so this might be worth doing.

Hi Maurice,

that's my thinking exactly. Not heard much about 993 temp sensors just my generic engine diagnosis.

GR

Thanks for the responses. I'll try swapping out the DME relay anyway, as I have a spare, and see if that fixes it. If not, I'll take a look at the temp sensor (sounds like a good suspect).

Maurice - if I crank long enough it usually fires (usually!), but just a quick dab of the throttle means it fires immediately.
