MIRACLE DETAIL

New member
I am thinking about getting a detailer to remove a couple of small scratches and some swirl marks and give my 997 turbo a bit of TLC. My web research and contact with the business suggest that Miracle Detail in Surry are what I am after.

Does anyone have experience of them or have good words to say about any other similar business in London?

Thanks

Also I will post on the BMW forum but anyone here know how best to keep the aluminium side steps in good condition on a new X5? They are looking sad after all this salt on the road.

Yes, Paul's an excellent (and obsessive detailer) who I used last March. Highly recommended.

I had my Gen II C2S detailed plus paint correction etc and had a layer of his Crystal Rockwax applied. Amazing finish, better than new.

He also provided a good view on what's good and what's not in terms of product (he's tested pretty much everything) and even gave me some stuff FOC to use on my car.

Nearly a year on now, the finish on my car is superb and getting salt off has been a doddle.

Funny you should mention this, I've just requested a mini-detail with him only today.

There's a nice collection of stored cars in his place (numerous Porsches including a CGT) in the grounds of Top Gear.

Cheers,
Simon

I used Paul at Miracle a couple of years ago. He is superb although not at all cheap. I guess you get what you pay for though. Highly recommended.

I only use www.elitedetailing.co.uk

G is obsessed with cars in general and loves his Porsches too..........have always been hugely impressed with the time he takes to get my cars right.....although based in the Midlands he works in London frequently........................

Paul is very good, i don't recommend Crystal rock though, stops beading after about 3 weeks which is crap really not very durable and for £500 a pop you can get a much better and durable wax, ive had it on mine twice along with Best of show as well, but i much prefer Glassur from Zym*l, fantastic wax to work with, but vintage is even better! but will cost a little more

John

John,

That's not what I've experienced with CR. Nearly a year in since having it done it's lasted very well. I do apply Zym*l Field Glaze on a regular basis after washing and it seems to keep it's lustre whilst beading reasonably well.

Cheers

field glaze would help, but even a swissvax detailer had it on his car and wasnt that impressed, its just a name on a pot!!, much much better waxs out there IMHO, the wax only really adds about 5% to the lustre anyway, its all in the prep work really, after a year without a top up id say it was more than likely the field glaze that you are using that is giving you the beading ( as this is a liquid carnauba)

one product you may want to try on top of your CR though is nano express!! which has a slight filling agent in it to for mild marring, also goes well on plastics, will sit well on top of your CR its a great product

to OP there are some great detailers on that list, also if you have a look through the site they post there work as well, some are very in depth and explain what they do....

John

Indeed.

I'll have to have a look at Nano Express John, always keen to get views on other good products.

Is there anyone out there that can repair stone chips? - apart from a complete respray at an OPC/bodyshop.

Mine's immaculate apart from those.

I've used Littleknocks in Wokingham to repair minor things like this on my old M3 and others. Impressed with the result. I know plenty of people who have used them also (all fussy people), all been happy with the cost and repair quality.

Worth giving them a call, they may want to see the car or photos before quoting though.

Cheers

most detailers that can handle wet sanding and using a rotary should be able to do that some companies like chips away ive seen them do more damage than good, like swirl the paint where they have been cleaning the area ready for the repair!

Simon,

yes nano is great should last you a good month too before waxes, also have a look at citrus bling From Valet pro

few great products i use

Wheels Valet Pro bilberry safe wheel cleaner (probably the best wheel cleaner you can get)
Snow foam Valet pro Ph neutral or bilt hamber auto foam ( great products)
Water based degreaser Bilt hamber sufex HD ( i dilute to a very weak 100-1 as not to remove wax and use to remove any stubbon flies and tar ) great product
leather leather milk, keeps the leather really soft so no cracks & creases
wax choice there is Zymol glassur
quick detailer field glaze

i have loads more that come in handy, its not addictive honest!! :)

John, detailers who can wet sand can often get scratches out but the rule of thumb is that if your nail catches on a scratch it is too deep to fix with rotary alone. This goes for stone chips as well. I've had mixed results with Chips Away. Depends very much on the operator, the colour of the car and the position of the damage on the panel. A good route IMO is to get any odd chips or deep scratches sorted with Chips Away or similar and then have the paint corrected by a detailer.

Alex, this has had some good reports as well http://www.langka.com/ although I've not tried it myself. Might be worth a group buy one day for all the red/silver cars?

You must spend a fortune John on product! [:)]

Is the snow foam really effective, do you get good results? I did look into this but ended up staying with Auto-bathe and zymol sponges (and grit guards of course). Wheels, I've tended to stick with wheel brite (zymol again) but I was told my Paul Dalton that the P21? stuff resold by Porsche is one of the best on the market.

A product I had never come across until recently was Zaino Polish. I use this on my painted wheels, they come up trumps.

Cheers

Well yes if it's gone through the Clear and colour coat Just wet sand won't do sod all.. I was on about filling stone chips wet sanding level & polishing out with rotary. So you don't have lots of proud spots of paint!

No mention of scratches which is very a different matter especially with a metalic colour

Yeah Simon I spend a bit but I do cars for people also in spare time
snow foam is great as a prewash. Point if it being it helps sofen dirt and drags it off gently if you hit the car with high pressure first you risk shooting dirt accross the paint which can inflict marks. I tend to foam the car between washes . You can also use it then again as a layer to lube the car to reduce swirling when washing!

Some great guides on detailing world including the stone chip repair on a BMW and also correct washing techneques

worth a read if you hate dirt :)
