Mirror Glass

Any idea how to secure the glass in the wing mirror? I know there is a screw in the hole at the bottom of the wing mirror but what sort of tool should be used?

The glass is held into a rotating "cup" and to release it you have to rotate the castelated "latch" in order to line up with the tabs that retain it. If you use a small flat bladed screwdriver through the hole in the bottom of the housing you can rotate the retaining ring by pushing the blade against the castelations. I can never remember which direction you have to push, but it's basically left or right. DON'T rotate the screwdriver, just push left or right. Once the retaining ring will rotate no further the glass should be able to be removed. It sounds a lot more complex than it is.

Dave - thanks for that your right it does sound a bit complex. So much for the advice of my man in the garage - just turn with a screwdriver!

When you say push left or right you dont mean turn? I have tried with a screwdriver and it does rotate but obviously nothing happens.

Any further info apprciated as I am clearly a bit dense! Let me explain why I am trying to do - the glass does not seem that secure - it is held in place but is a bit loose. From what you are saying I am not sure this can be tightened up?

It's one of those things where I'm sure a picture would be worth a thousand words!! But I don't have a picture!!

The retaining ring is a good 2 to 2.5 inches across so you have to rotate the locking ring a good way to release the tabs. The reason it may be loose could be that not all the tabs around the perifery are located correctly. Once you get it off it will be obvious.
