Misfire help

Hey guys,

I really need your help. I was out in the car at the weekend or a long run. Car ran absolutely fine until after dinner when I tried to come home. The car started ok but had a bit of a lumpy tickover. Car also struggled to pull away. Finaly got it home and investigated. Found it to be a misfire.l

Replaced the coil and plug leads thinking I had it knocked off but hey it seems not. It seems to be firing ok on cylinders 1 and 4 but when I removed pugs in 2 and 3 they were soaked in fuel. Cleaned them up and refitted but still the same. The only thing I can think of is faulty distributor cap or sensor somewhere else has gone. Has anyone had anything similar. Coolant level also ok so don't think the head gasket has gone.

Please help

Craig

Dizzy cap would be my first bet as well mate. I bet it has never been changed. Trouble is they are not a piece of cake to get off.

I guess in the absence of being able to positively identify the fault or faulty component then you're into the realms of replacing all the components sytematically. These components were not meant to last as long as they have so are probably well overdue for replacement. It could also possibly be a faulty injector - if it is delivering too much fuel it could be preventing firing in that cylinder - did you find wet fuel on the spark plugs?

I'd be looking at the dizzy and rotor arm too.

As there are 2 plugs wet, chances are it wouldn't be 2 injectors at the same time.

A friend had a rough running 944 and you wouldn't believe the state of them, even the locating pins were bent....and it still ran , just!
