Misfire on acceleration on low revs

New member
My 2000 C2 Tip has developed a problem of misfiring under acceleration from low revs (under 2000 rpm).
Seems worse when engine warm.
Engine runs perfectly in higher revs.
Tried Throttle body Adap. with no success (low outside temp could be affecting this)
Has anyone had this problem before or does anyone know what it could be.
Engine management light (Check) does flicker on when this happens sometimes (not all).
No fault codes showed on Snap-on Diagnostic.
Help needed please.[]

Mick!

If your car is early 2000 then it might have mechanical throttle, and the system adaption routine won't work. You would have to disconnect the battery to do it.

Also, early UK 996s with mechanical throttle use Bosch Motronic version 5.2.2 which isn't truly OBD2 or EOBD compatible. Therefore, the Snap-On tester might not read the Porsche fault codes. I had the same trouble with my 1998 C2.

I suspect that your problem is a coil pack, but you need to get a diagnostic check done with a Porsche tester to confirm. If you are anywhere near me I'd be happy to do it for you.

Edit: A touch of brain fade. MY2002 is electronic throttle, so scrub what I said about that. You may still have a fault code stored in the Pending Codes register which the Snap-On tool might not be able to read though.

Thanks for your analysis guys.
Just for your info. Car is a late 2000 so assume FBW throttle.
Not convinced it is coils though. Would have thought you would notice this on higher revs/heavy load.
Engine runs perfectly above 2000 rpm range.
Have tried driving it on manual and seems to have no hesitancy due to revs being a lot higher on average.
I think it is throttle body adaptor/sensor or something electrically led.
Will have to book for Diagnosis at local Porsche specialist Richard as I live in East Northants.
Will let you know outcome.
Thanks for your thoughts/advice.
