Misrepresentation?

Metro newspaper Friday 10 July 2009, 'Porsche fan kills himself in car'
"A builder was so depressed at his conviction for driving dangerously in his beloved red Porsche that he killed himself in it, an inquest heard. [victim]'s suicide came five months after he was banned from driving and placed under a home curfew order, which he found 'very difficult' to live with. The publicity of the court case also affected his business".

Any opinions?

It rather depends what his conviction was for - we all know the law, it doesn't necessarily mean we all stick to it all the time but we know the potential consequences.
Quite what the type of car has to do with it is beyond me. The car doesnt break the law the driver does.
It does rather perpetuate the myth that all Porsche drivers are irresponsible, narcissistic tossers.
Which isn't necessarily true[;)]

Garbage media like this makes me really angry, if it weren't for the unfortunately stereotyped 'red Porsche' this article would never have made it to press.

The fact that his business was going under doesn't seem to have influenced the tone of the article at all.

missing important facts heres, like what model it was?

at least he was a porsche fan, not someone wanting a fashion accesory.

i take that back if it was a cayenne ;p

It was probably the case that it was a modern car and he was depressed about the number of times he has had to replace the RMS.

Well this stereotyping is unfortunately what we suffer. The "Red Porsche" made the headline.... If it was his "Wifes Micra" it would have said "Car" and it would never made the news.

I know this fella personally http://www.kilkennyadvertiser.com/mayo/article/4227
and the Gardai hyped up his case to make it as bad as possible. He was driving a black '86 LHD 944 Lux. He overtook a few coffin dodgers doing 30mph in a 60 zone and they reported him - when the Gardai pulled him they threw the book at him just because of what he was driving just to teach him a lesson...!

My daily driver is a '01 Grey Mondeo Estate. I am totally invisible to other road users - If I done the same as John above I doubt if I would have been reported let alone made the paper. When I drive the '44 I generally drive easier and exersize more courtesy as I know even a glance wrong will land me in hot water ...!

The article didn't comment on whether he was an enthusiast or not but the fact it's been written as though he was is purely to blacken the image of the brand and to suggest this is how we'll all end up, banned that is.

It was probably written by a guttermouthed little upstart intending to chelp his way to a job with the Daily Sport.

not hard to get banned these days; only person i know personally whos been banned was driving a grey mondeo. 84 on a motorway in rain.

mind you if my granny gets nicked 3 more times shes banned too. 34 in a 30 zone. (well known 'community tax' spot now) i dont think she loves her clio that much tho so im not worried.

i took him to be an enthusiast (abeit perhaps a manic depressive one) by the terms 'Porsche fan' and 'his beloved red Porsche'

storm in a teacup isnt it? i quite like the metro usually must have been a quiet week

It is a storm in a tea cup yes, but i just find the way a young man's tragic death has been used to ridicule a section of society to be disgusting and unprofessional, the media world just continues to disappoint me in this way like some sort of perpetuating bad smell.

Brand and Ross got dragged through the gorse bushes backwards for far less, lets just say i'm not looking at this one on the brightside.

Even though Ross told the producer that the pre-recorded show needed editing before broadcast. The producer didnt edit it but whilst he was absolutely responsible, he avoided all of the blame...
