Missing under load

Evening All

I seem to have developed an issue where the car is missing under load when damp, checked the cap, leads, plugs and arm and all looks ok. Still on original leads however although they are nice and flexible. After playing with it yesterday the king lead now does not snap in very firm, as a consequence it is now missing when not damp. Could have exacerbated the original problem or created a new one, who knows!

Anyway, I have just picked up a nearly new set of 8.5mm Magnecor leads plus dizzy cap for £50 from only9 on e-bay. Hopefully this will fix the issue.

Is there anywhere else I should be looking? Coil, speed sensors?

Cheers

Stuart

Good stuff Albert! Should get the leads before the weekend. Did you go for standard or magnecor? Stuart

Scam Just a quick one, you're missing may well be electric related and hopefully the new leads will fix the problem. When I had a similar issue (missing under load) it turned out to be a dying fuel pump - opnly manifested itself under full boost when the engine need full fuel pressure.... Wish I'd sorted it sooner, it later lead to a burnt exhaust valve, scored bore and engine rebuild..... :(

I ordered Magnecor, but they were out of stock at the time, so I went for standard, the old ones were so old the rubber had perished!

As has been said, it'll be either fuel related (fuel pump not delivering the goods quick enough) or (more likely) electrical. Sounds like you are onto it with the dodgy king lead. Replace this and the rest of them, and the plugs, clean out the plug bores and hopefully this will cure the problem. A new dizzy cap and rotor arm would complete the picture. (These can quite often look fine but be tracking nastily. Ask me how I know ... ) Oli.

Thanks for the replies chaps! I will be mindful of a fuel delivery issue if the leads, cap and arm don't solve my issue. Cheers Stuart

I was plagued with a misfire on acceleration that turned out to be a cracked connector on injector number one, replaced it and straight back to normal or better than normal in fact. It was so erratic ( coming and going) it was a nightmare to find.

Well the ignition leads done the trick. Arrived today, top service from James at only9. Nearly new Magnecor KV85 leads now fitted. Miss is gone and car feels a bit smoother and more responsive right through the rev range (or maybe placebo effect?! who cares, I'm happy [:D]). I have also fixed my brake squeak (probably temporary, but again who cares!) and cured my annoying almost rhythmic tippy tappy rattle from windscreen/behind dash area. It turns out it was the plastic housing for the ignition barrel multi-plug that was chattering away. Stumbled on it last night when I was replacing my temp gauge. A triple success story then! Off for a well earned beer! Stuart
