Lo all, has anyone used or heard re MJI exhausts in the midlands ( on Google)
they will make up a stainless exhaust from the bottom of the downpipe back all in for £294 fitted , which seems rather cheep to me. They will do the downpipe as well for another £140 , another question is of course , is the downpipe much of a restriction , is there any point changing it ?

My car has a few mods such as boost enhancer , bailey dump valve and induction kit but I'm suprised it has a bog standard exhaust. At least I assume it has as it is even quieter than my last 944 Turbo and TBH sounds quite mouse like.

I am not sure if you will gain power from them. However I'd rather go there than the likes of most Powerflow agents. They are a decent bunch of guys there, and they are willing to help where needby.

However, many would probably say to go for a Dansk system or delete the midsection out.

Thanks for the reply, Dansk are quite expensive and thats fine if they are defo so much better but I know from past experience of other things that the product with the name is often charging you for the name if you see what I mean so I want to check the alternatives.

MJI make it up pretty much how you like, are you saying that
( after taking proper advice) that I may want a system with no centre box ?

Hi Mas check out this site : http://www.pipewerx.com/index.html

The man there is called Ian Birch he did a decat for my 944 T and has great facilities and is reasonably prices , well worth a ride out to see him or call him for a quote , he does work from top race cars and knows who to build top exhuast systems.

I always wonderd what Ian Birch was doing, he made a lot of fast vw's and was inspiration for a few of my cars.
Also did a fair amount of work on mates cars, I dont think you go far wrong.

I'll check them out , I have already loked at the site thanks for that.
I have just found in Enfield and I work there so very handy indeed BUT I have no recomendations for them. http://www.torque-exhausts.com/

Would certainly prefer your one with the track record TBH though lancs is another long trip hehhehe

Cheers Mas

IIRC one of our long standing members in the Midlands (Graham Burnet) had his car decatted at MJI and he was very pleased with their work and the results for a very reasonable price.

Their quote of £294 from the downpipe backs seems way too good to be true or it could be a confusion over terminology (or they are touting for new business). I normally refer to the downpipe as being the short 6" tube with a 90 degree bend that is bolted right to the turbocharger. The front box is bolted to that downpipe. The rear box is bolted to the front box just underneath the drivers side rear footwell.

It is possible they are planning to cut your front pipe at the point where it is still vertical, about a foot below the actual downpipe. As far as I know it is impossible to remove the curved downpipe without removing the turbocharger itself (several hours labour and the intake has to come off)

I wouldn't say their price is too good to be true it's the market they aim at. On previous cars they asked a similar price for a catback system, or around £380 for one with a decat. As said, a friend of mine's very happy with the exhaust system he has from them.
