had a look in the engine bay before purchase, as you would and in the oil filler cap there appears to be a cheesymayo like substance.........now initialy i thought head gasket but there is no oil spillage/leakage and the previous owner reckons it's condensation????
any way i bought her!![] had her over a week starts first time every time, idles a bit low once warmed up but this seems intermittent.
can anyone shed some light.
any help apreciated.[8|]

There does not need to be any oil spillage /leakage for you to have a headgasket failure. However due to the lack of miles it could be condensation. Best thing todo would be change the oil anyway, and then have a look if there is anymore mayo in it. After changing the oil, keep an eye on the water level, if the gaskets gone, the water level will drop as it mixes with the oil, or gets blown down the exhaust port.

Mayo in the filler neck is very common when the weather is cold and damp or if the car only does short journeys. Clean it out with tissue and go for some long drives getting the engine nice and warm.

I found my mayo was drastically reduced after having a new thermostat which caused the car to run at its normal operating temp. A weak thermostat opens too early and always flows water through the radiator, hence the car runs a little colder than is ideal.

cheers guys!!
that has alieve-ated a lot of pushed to the back of my mind buried worry[:(]
cheers.
