Mobil 1

ORIGINAL: raviramyead

Does anyone know the cheapest place to get hold of 10 litres of Mobil 1?

thanks

A while back Costco had it on special offer £17.50 for 4 litre pack ... I bought enough to last a while [;)]

As someone who is just about to take my 996 on a very long business and pleasure touring holiday in France, can I ask that you please expand on your remark about France being a cheap place to buy Mobil 1 ?
Is that everywhere, in certain hypermarkets, gas stations, or whatever ?
Cheers,
SGLB

Steve & All,

The cheapest will be Supermarkets (= Auchan, Carrefour, ...) if they do some promos, then specialists (= Norauto, when you see a Auchan Supermarket you'll see just beside Norauto, sister company).

Petrol stations have to be avoided, specially on the motorways!

Hope it'll help!

Cheers,

Fab

I'm off to France next week, so will have to decide on bringing back wine or Mobil 1!!
Will keep my eye out for the supermarkets and get some for sure.

Well had a great trip to Europe and the ring, then went shopping, Mobil 1 at 30 euro and a bit, but none of the viscous that I required[:'(]
Next time maybe.

Did you find Mobil 1 at that price in France as well as Germany ? And in supermarkets, for example. You mention viscosity- was it difficult to find the right viscosity ?
Steve.

The grade available in French Supermarkets until recently was 5W-50.

I noticed that Mobil have now re-packaged the oil into 5 Litre (rather than 4) containers, and it is now 5W-40.

Both grades are perfectly within the accepted range of the current models.

The Grade I have always used is the 0w-40 and this is what was just put in mine at the service at the OPC along with a 1ltr top up of the same 0-40.
I'm no oil expert so didn't take any chances in using a different spec oil, whilst I could be saving over £15 for the 4ltrs how much could it be costing me long term?
I went to the supermarket close to the Chunnel and Shell station, it was all 5w-40 in 4ltr containers, there was a car parts store across the carpark to which I also looked and again 5w-40.
Had no time to visit supermarkets in Germany, Damn[]

What's the correct viscosity for air cooled turbos ? I hear that 0-40 Mobil 1 is far too thin and leaks out all over the place on older engines. Is 15-50 the correct choice ?
