Mobil one 0W-40

For those not near a Costco, mobil one 0W - 40 @ 32 quid for 5 liter thought I would pass on to members [;)]

Edited as silly old sod didn't say where, ASDA

I have Mobile 1 0-40 but is labelled for "turbodiesel". Is there any difference in the Mobil 1 labelled for petrol engines and is it safe to use the former in a 997?

I am sure an oil expert will pop up soon, but I am pretty sure do not use the Turbo diesel oil in a 997.

According to this website

you can't use it in petrol engines. I guess the clue is in the name![;)]

Just been to my nearest Asda in Plymouth and they had 2 x 1lt bottles on the shelf at £8.50 each! No sign of any £32 5 lt.[:(]

Seen in Asda Wakefield on 23/3/10 so should be nationwide, mind you 1 lt at £8.50 is not so bad, I paid £14.50 Halfords for a liter

Even at £8.50 its good value, how many of you provide your own oil when it comes to servicing?

I don't supply my own oil at service, its a bit like going for a meal out and supplying the spuds [:D]

Look at the cost of oil on your last service invoice - anything up to £15 per litre!! - and you'll soon see why it's worth supplying your own oil even if you don't have access to Costco!

I can see the reasoning for supplying your own oil...
However I see it as a possible get-out clause for any issues at an OPC- not saying it is, just possibly...

Therefore I grin and bare it and remove any such clauses...

I purchase the oil for my dealer services for both my BMW and my last 997, provided you buy a manufacturer approved brand of the correct viscosity and agree with your dealer then I don't see a problem and it saves a lot of money even at halfords prices.
I have not had it questioned by either BMW or Porsche when I've asked and have always had the balance left in the 5 litre container to take away and use as top up between services although never needed any in the BM.

Hmmm not really, you can provide the same oil for 1/2 the price. Money is too hard to come by for most to simply give it away....

I'm no expert but turbo diesel mobil 1 is I think a specially formulated low ash oil to ensure the diesel particulate filter lasts longer. I wouldn't use it in my 911.
