Mobile jump starter

Hi, does anyone have any experience with these almost mobile phone sized car jump starters? I bought one recently and it did not work despite promising spec. Would like to invest in a decent one so recommendations welcome. Cheers, John.

I am interested in experiences any of you have with these small lithium based units also. The review is a nice starting point however it is a shame they didn't give more info on the amps that were output and they didn't test on the kind of engine size we are likely to be interested in... wonder how it would fare on the 3+ litre Carerra/ Boxster/ Cayman and especially the 4.5+ litre Cayennes.

James,

I'm sure that information is available from the manufacturers' websites.

I suppose the best thing to do is make sure that the cold cranking amps of the device match approximately those of your car's battery.

The Britpart item has some impressive claims, it was recommended to me and hence here ^ my own positive experience.

Yes thanks for the link to that article and the Britpart item looks like it might just about scrape by for the 3.4 996 due to their website saying it is rated at peak current of 600A. I would suggest it is on the limit when the weather gets cold.. and let's face it, that is the crucial time.
The issue is being able to compare these products properly, as they often quote the figures which suit them most, such as starting current or peak current.
We really want them all to quote their CCA but lots do not. CCA is at 0 degrees which is realistic for the conditions we expect these devices to be needed most.
My 996 was okay on a 640CCA battery but it's the smaller sized option for those cars and a lot of owners rightly decide to fit the bigger footprint batteries when they've had enough of the 640CCA 70 Ah ones being barely good enough.
The point is that most of these lithium jump packs in the review would be struggling with cars that are a bit on the larger side (as ours are) with a 50% discharged battery as they often have a starting current listing in the region of 300A-400A which means the CCA would likely be lower still.. hence they often forget to specify the CCA.
I just feel that the AutoExpress 'review' could do a much better job as their top rated produce is actually suggested on the Sealey website as suitable for 'petrol 2ltr & diesel 1.6ltr which is fine for a lot of the average cars in the road but not great for any Porsches... particularly when it hits 0 degrees and that oil gets nice and thick!

I may give one of them a shot, but I have concerns and will keep the jump leads inside a daily car just in case!
