Modified car insurance

I know this is potentially the most boring subject ever, but I'm trying to find someone that will cover my car. So far I've called Aon and their subsidary Footman James but neither are able to insure me. Adrian Flux have given me a figure of over £1.5K which is a little hard to swallow so I'm just looking for alternatives. The car is used 10k miles a year and this is the sticking point (as is the doubling of engine power [:)]).
Any suggestions gratefully appreciated!

Try Norton `heritage` insurance.

They insured my hugely modded G27 with an agreed value and also my rebuilt and uprated Westy.

I have also declared the KWV3 and W/M arb`s on the 944 with no premium hike.

https://www.hertsinsurance.com would be worth a try. Both my cars are insured with them - the 944 on a classic/limited mileage policy and the Subaru on a regular policy. They are mod-friendly and as an added bonus trackday cover is included with the 944 policy.

Adrian Flux were the only ones who would insure me for an unlimited mileage policy and 450bhp and the figure was just over £1100, so in the end I took out a classic 5000 mile policy with AON at a 1/3 of the price but resigned my baby to a weekend toy [:(]

Good point Paul. A reduced or limited mileage policy is what I had, 5000 miles in all instances.

I'm with AON and they didn't seem interested in mods at all. I told them my car was modified and they just said "oh that's OK". I had to force them to list my modifications on the insurance certificate because I didn't want them to have any get-outs in the event of an accident. I think if you are insuring the car as your main car then you are probably screwed. My AON policy is a 2nd 'classic' car policy and is usually limited to 6k a year, but due to the age of my car it is actually unlimited milage. It gives me all the usual fully comp bells and whistles, however the car needs to be garaged at night (though i've never had a problem when i've rung them up to tell them it'll be parked up at a mates house for a week) and it even includes 4 track days organised by an authorised company. However because it is a 2nd car policy you don't earn any NCB because you get that against your main car - though your current NCB does count. Last year it only cost me just under £300. Can't grumble at that.

I'm with HIC - 6k, business use, +50hp (Ok not as much of an increase as yours [:D]), trackday cover £600. They don't seem to worry too much about mods, just want them declared. I guess you need to emphasise the additional braking / suspension you have on the car to cope with the extra power.

HIC are now part of Flux, but they still seem to offer different policies to Flux.

I've just found out they exclude the nurburgring, so I'm trying to find some alternative cover [:(]

Both my Turbos are insured through Nowell and Richards brokers, found them through the Porsche club a few years back paying circa 400 pounds each with all mods declared, the mileage is limited to 5k miles i think,Adam was the guy that sorted my policies, off topic he just saved me a packet on my house insurance told my old insurer (my bank) to go and jolly well swing off (enjoyed that)[:)]Nice company worth a call, cannot wait to see your "superlight" Peter!
Cheers,
Mark

I picked one of the numbers at random and called them first thing. It was HIC and they came up with an offer for today only of £950. This didn't seem too bad to me as it's not far off what Tesco wanted to charge (except that I can continue to do trackdays now), so I've gone for it. I suspect I might have been able to save a little bit more with a more extended phone around but it's a very busy time of year for me so I just had to cut my losses with what seemed right.
Thanks for all the help, this forum saved me over £500 today [:D]
