MODS & insurence

been reading some of the threads in this section of the forum and it seems a lot of you are into doing mods, chipping and adding bits.

i did few basic bits to the last Boxster i owned,I had a real job finding insurance to cover the car once it was done..(when i did manage to find a company they charged me about £200 more then they would have done before i did anything to it.) that was with Porsche made bodykits and mods.

so where do you lot go for insurance. ?

I've been with NU for a lot of years. I have a history of modified cars with them and also have leverage because I have 5 current vehicles insured with them.

My 944T turbo has always been insured with them, complete with modifications. Last week I rang to inform them that I now had a modified head/turbo etc etc. The net result was no increase in premium.

It might be worth you talking to customer services department, explain that you have multiple vehicles and modifications and see what they say. The main hurdle is getting through the Indian 'first line of defense' to get to speak to someone sensible in the UK who actually understands what it is that you want (i.e not a Vauxhall smegma. Garaged. safe postcode etc) They customer services dept can actually be quite understanding and flexible. The only downside is currently no track day cover - I'm still working on that one [;)]

Good Luck !

If you have two 944s roughly the same like myself, get one insurance on one car and swap the plates from one to the other! Uuuumm? Sorry officer...

You are a tease [;)]

Insurance for modified cars is a real problem. I love spending 15 minutes on the phone to insurance companies, having first told them the car is modified, to be asked what the modifications are and then told they don't insure modified cars. [][][]

It can be a problem, and each company changes their rules every year. Most companies will charge extra for performance enhancements, but you have to remember that 944s are mostly worth much less than £10k anyway. Your Boxster will have been nearer £30k.

Norwich Union do seem to have a good rep at the moment, but I refuse to deal with companies that offshore their workforce to save costs (guess who's job is under threat from the same thing [;)] )
