Mods/ your two pennies worth

Hi peeps

I just thought i would ask a question which i think will be to some "blasphemy". Do you OR Do you not mod your PORSCHE ? As you may be aware if you have seen my 924S "Pearl" i have started to modernise her appearence, as i was getting alittle removed from the process in trying to keeping her truthy original. However i have had mixed responces from the public on the car, on the hole very possitive, but one or two alittle more tight lipped but i think i get their message.[:'(].

So i thought i would ask you guys and girls what's your opion on the subject do you have a wish list of mods for your humble little Porsche, or there is no mods whats so ever you will ever undertake, or just alittle to keep it going, or somthing completly different.

Marc

oh come on surly you have an opion on the subject ! or is it that my aftershave is off [:D]

Hi Marc

I must admit I do like the subtle mods you have added to your car, particulary the wheels and the mesh grille that replaces the standard lump of plastic.
Also I like a good Carrera GT/S/R replica with roll cage and stripped interior - there were 2 at Brands Hatch and I must say I want one [:)]

Having said that I also see the value of a standard 924, original wheels and all, just to keep a good perspective on what the car was like when it rolled out of the factory.

So I'm a neutral really - just as well really as I'd be nagging you to put those Teledial wheels back on your car Marc [;)]

Hi Marc, I say modify it. Unless it's an exceptionally rare model there's nothing wrong in making your car want you want it to be/look like.

There aren't many Porsches out there that haven't been modified. In fact, within PCGB I don't think many would consider replacing the wheels to be a 'modification' any longer - it's just part of personalising the car to your taste.

cheers ........... Phil

thanks for the comments

my next mod is to replace the back little wing for a 968 stlye, i havent seen my 924s with this 4 piece wing fitted but i think it finishes the back quite nicely, as soon as the end of the month comes (play day er i mean pay day) i will be ordering one and ill let you know how it went

On the subject of the back end i have been looking for a rear lower valence which mimics the 944 lower turbo valance not the slotted kind but the colour coded wing type. I did see one a number of years ago but since then nothing for the 924 if anyone has one and wants to get rid of im your man to quote george michael[&:]

Personally I wouldn't make any external changes to my Porsches which were inconsistent with their original appearance, for different reasons. The 924 is an ongoing restoration (mostly complete) where the goal has been to undo the numerous bodge jobs attempted by the previous owner under the skin and to restore the bodywork/wheels/interior etc. to original condition. The 944, well the previous 2 owners did such a marvellous job of looking after the car that it would be heresy to start fiddling with the appearance. I would consider a respray and do need to get the wheels refurbished at some point, but the only cosmetic change would be a different exhaust. Under the bonnet... now that's a different story! [:)]

Marc, you might want to contact Richard at Club Autosport (01384) 410879 as they make loads of different panels / bodykit and do mail order. Feel free to mention my name. I see on their website there is a "924 to 944 Turbo" page, rear valance is listed @ 180 but Richard will normally negotiate down. 968 spoiler is there too.

Thanks for that Dan

i really do fancy a 968 rear hatch spoiler and a stainless steel back box, and a couple of tweeks under the old bonnet as well [;)]

I guess there are enough standard 924/924S about for there to be space for the modded car. The trend in the VW circles for the Cal-Look, retro look etc etc shows that there's a lot of creativity about. I don't think you'd add much to the price though unless everything was done to a high "concours" standard to create the desire in the buyer. The downside is that often mods are HIGHLY personal (hence not to universal tatse) so do your own thing and enjoy!

Hi mike

thats absolutly true, but if we, i mean i, was updating my car for re-sale purpose in my mind i'm missing the point. I am tring to put the WOW factor back in the car, and i think its working as a trip out on saturday confirmed this as large number of the pupil commented on how good the car looked and raised interest in the 924. And agian your right its all about enjoying the car and trust me I DO [:D][:D][:D]
