Moisture in Driver and Passenger footwells of my Targa 4S

OPC Reading had my 2014 car yesterday to check out moisture in the drivers footwell. Mat and under carpet where wet, but not excessive. All drains checked nothing obvious, so it will have to go in for a couple of days later to be stripped of seat and carpets to find out source.

This string to to assist if anyone else experiences this.

All I can say is after accepting more time back at Reading, today I really did check very carefully and found both drivers steel back plates that hold the seat runners in place are rather rusty. In contrast passenger side look brand new. Back seat mat and carpet is also moist. So, this is not one off, it's been going on sometime. I bought the car in Jun 15 from Reading. It's never been in the rain...and I've been very careful with cleaning.

You don't say how long you have owned the vehicle, so it maybe the leak is historic. In which case it could be a missing bulhead grommet or leakage around a component eg. steering column, hoses, wiring harness etc.
If it has occurred since your ownership and you don't take it out in the wet, it can only be caused by a leak in a seal somewhere, either around the windscreen (is it original or a replacement?) or a seal around the door/window frame/door mirror. When you wash the car, do you see any moisture on the inside of the windows, for instance? Try putting dry newspaper on the floor prior to washing and this may help identifying the source of the leak. If you continually need to top up the coolant, it might be a leak in the heating system within the cabin, but you should be able to tell this by coloration in moisture on the floor. It could be any one of a hundred possibilities, really.

It's something that should sorted out under warranty and needs to be attended to urgently as prolonged dampness can cause substantial and expensive damage to your precious asset. It could also prove pricey to track down and rectify. ??

Ok so we now know the cause.

As I always suspected it was the A/C unit. The pipe that takes the excess water (drain pipe) from A/C unit out of the car, underneath the floor pan, onto the road was dislodged. Hence water spilling into footwells.

I was told this type of 996/986 issue fixed in this release of Porsche. Obviously not......

Note to self. Check A/C drips Ok, out onto the road every now and again, by inspecting underneath of car.

As an update I went into Porsche Reading today to inspect the car now that the drivers seat and carpets removed. I'm about one week away from getting car back whilst everything dries out. No damage has been caused but ingress into rear passenger section is due to not being 100% water tight between bulkheads, and so car movement and flow forced some water from front well to back well.

The A/C drain pipe is black and about 1/2 inch wide, and runs down the side of the gearbox steel internal casing and then goes through a connector to turn it 90 degrees and takes pipe out through the floor pan to deposit water on road.

The issue is the connector which sits almost directly below the clutch pedal, so the shoe/heel of the driver. Porsche do not fit a safety clip to the connector. Mine will. Two pipes somehow (by magic) became disconnected and hence water from A/C drain pipe then flowed into footwell and not outside onto the road. This is the second incident of the down pipe getting disconnected from the connector OPC Reading have seen.

My loaner whilst this activity has been taking place has been a 2015 991 3.4 Cab TDK with 4K on clock. Not a fan of TDK, I'm afraid. I'm using it in manual mode so I maintain control of which gear I want.
