Momo Madness

My fellow SC'ers, seriously impressed myself today and had to share the news.

A while ago on eBay I bought a proper proper proper genuine limited-edition signed Jacky Ickx Momo wheel on eBay, dating back to 1983, the year of my car. I have wanted to change the original wheel for a while in order to preserve the condition of the nice original thing that was on there, move my nails away from the dash so I can stop scratching the leather, fit a slightly wider rim and fit a wheel with a slight dish on it which would allow me to get my hands/wrists closer to the centre of the wheel on tight cornering (something you can't do with the original).

Having bought the wheel and a boss kit (a Buy-It-Now bargain), I got a Porsche horn push from Lightweight911 on the forum (cheers Andy) and decided to fit the lot this morning. However, putting the bits together, it was obvious I was missing the horn ring, which goes between the wheel and the boss and has a diameter slightly smaller than the wheel centre in order to hold the horn push in place.

Much swearing followed, while I searched eBay to see if there were any on there. Then it suddenly occurred to me that I might have one hidden away in the darkest recesses of my garage. I dragged out a load of dusty boxes of camper spares and lo and behold, there was one in the first box I opened. Not only that, but looking at the original wheel it was obvious that the contact ring for the horn push was not secured to the original wheel at all, which explained my non-cancelling right indicator and the click I was hearing on return from full lock. Screwed it to the new boss and it was all sorted! Hence me seriously impressing myself.

This doesn't happen all that often so had to celebrate. Put the kettle on and got the box of homemade biscuits out. Some pics below - what do you think? Personally I am over the moon with it [:)]

Pic 1 - the new wheel on top very slightly smaller than the original.

What gear knob do you have there?

SP

It's an original SC gearknob that I picked up from Porsche last week, but had I known it was gonna be plastic when I ordered it I would have bought something else. Feels nice and looks right but £60 for a plastic gearknob is just taking the you-know-what! I think Type911 do nice leather ones for about £45.

Damn... thought there were going to be pictures of the homemade biscuits...[:D] hmmmmmmm... biscuitttttssssss....

Would it not fix on the other side?

Why would I want to ruin a work of art like the 911 by putting the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car [8D]
