Monaco Classic May 2018

If you were at the October meeting Greg mentioned that a number of members will be going to the Monaco Classics. The dates for the classic are 11th to the 13th of May 2018. A number of us are making a holiday of it and taking advantage of being in the south of France and all it has to offer. At present most of us are staying in Nice (20 minutes on the train from Monaco) and some in Monaco itself but are flying out together on Tuesday 8th and flying back on the 16th (most of us). Of course you don't have to do this and can make your own arrangements. But for those who would like to join us see the details below. A number of the guys and girls have been before and reckon it is a bucket list event :)

You will also need to arrange your own tickets for the classic event.

Flying from Newcastle with EasyJet on Tuesday 8th of May and returning on Wednesday 16th.

Stopping in Nice at the Excelsior hotel, ten minute walk from the sea front and five minutes to the train station.

Cost is approx £1000 for two people.

Going so far:

Mark & Wendy (Nice)

Chris & Pat (Nice)

Darren & Julie (Nice)

Alison (Nice)

Dave & Karen B (Nice)

Greg and Deb (Monaco)

Amy & Dave (Monaco)

If anybody requires anymore info let me know.

Hi, we haven't bought our tickets yet. I'm going to talk to Greg as he was thinking of doing a block booking. As soon as I know I'll post on here.

I have already ordered our race tickets direct from here

Their system won't allow me to book a block of tickets due to it assuming you are a ticket tout or a Travel company with an account.

We have already booked our tickets for both days Saturday & Sunday (Friday pm practice free)

I have booked stand K1 which is on the corner of the harbour which also allows you to see the cars exiting the tunnel and the big TV screen to follow all the rest of the ontrack action.

Deb & I are staying Tuesday to Tuesday (7 days), further up the coast close to Monaco but still flying into Nice, with Easyjet from Newcastle rather than Tuesday to Wednesday, for those who may need to save their extra days holidays for other days away in 2018.

It looks like we may end up with a set up similar to the Silverstone Classic, with members dotted about in various hotels, but meeting up for the action on race days. The hotel we have stayed in twice previously have ramped their prices up to ridiculous levels this year.

If you're planning on booking a hotel, as long as you are close to a station on the Nice-Ventimiglia Train route, access to Monaco should be straightforward (although I'm sure we have all experienced the disruption caused by French strikes, fingers crossed!)

Hi I've got a room booked for this event that includes grandstand tickets, deluxe double room in a hotel in Monaco and hospitality as others have said it's a once in a life time sort of thing so pushed the boat out a bit. The room I've got is a twin and there is a spare bed, don't know if the restraining order is still in force but Kenny may be able to go!

Greg, Im getting a bit lost with your link for tickets. Its taking me to the Grand Prix site I believe....?

I've also found this one.

https://www.selectmotorracing.com/Historic/H_monaco-Tickets.htm stand K unreserved seating at £72 for the two days.

I have the full week off work and 2 days into the second week. Need to talk to the long haired General and come up with a plan. May do the full 11 ish days out there leaving on Sat 5th and returning on the Mon or Tue the following week.

Andy, it's an awful website. Click on the "tablet & smartphone" link, the page it takes you to has the option to order tickets for the Historic. Tickets are 60Euros, if memory serves + postage.

We've used Kevin at Select Motor Racing for years for our F1 tickets, and used him the first year we went to Monaco for the Historic, then found it was cheaper to book direct (if you can navigate the website!)

On the official site I can book stand K, but it does not appear to provide specific parts of that stand. Any suggestions?

If I recall its stand K1. There is no seat allocation only a unreserved seating.

We have booked ours to pick up on the Friday at the venue. Saves on the 20 euro postage. Have to pay the 15 Euro handling fee though. Came to 135 Euro total for the 2 days.

Hope this helps.

Finalised all booking required for the Monaco Classic. Greg explained the website for booking the ticket so sailed through that. Payed 60 euro + 15 euro handling fee so assume I collect my ticket along with the others on Friday. For those who can't go due to the restrictions of flights you can book return flight by KLM/Air France with infinitely better travel times via schipol or Charles de Gaulle for £140.

Got my tickets booked for stand K. We will hopefully be staying near Antibes for a couple of weeks either side of the event so should be able to meet up for a memorable meal or two over the weekend.

We are going! [:)] . Linda and I have made this into a holiday so flying to Nice.

We have also booked an apartment in the hills above Antibes, same as JohnCR, and I have booked a weekend ticket (me only) in stand K. Don't know where in K? It just says best available. I couldn't make the historic website work either so booked via GLOBAL TICKETS, but around the same price of 75.00 Euros, plus the inevitable postage and packing.

NOTE: The lady I booked the apartment with has another two bed apt (4 people) in the same building, available around those dates for £135 per night with a pool and off street parking. Let me know if you want the details.

cheers John

We are going. Thursday to Monday, staying in Nice by the beach.[:)]

I have booked stand 'L' for Saturday and 'K1' for Sunday (I like a change of view).

Hope to see you there.

Hi all

I mentioned to Greg, who then mentioned it at the last meeting earlier this month about the strikes taking place in France. It is mainly affecting the trains and planes from what I can gather so far.

Strike dates for the up and coming weeks.

Monday, May 7 - Air France strike

Tuesday, May 8 - Rail and Air France strike (also a public holiday)

Wednesday, May 9 - Rail strike (Thursday, May 10, is a public holiday)

No air strikes are yet scheduled beyond May 8, but could be called if negotiations fail. Meanwhile, further rail strikes are planned on the following days.

May 13-14 - Please bare in mind that the 13th is a race day so travelling to Monaco may be a problem..! We will not know till the day before (I think) what trains are running. May 18-19

I have had to change from train on the 8th May to a flight with Easyjet from Paris to Nice. I have spoken to Easyjet and they have assured me that NO FLIGHTS as of yet have been affected within France and those flights originating from the UK.

Hope this helps.
